Guest guest
Well, when we first started (sorry, I don't know why my font is coming out obnoxiously big). I started with small things like jimmies and sprinkles - those were no problem. (Not the most healthful options, but we pick our demons, you know?) We hit a road block once I tried to go up to the size of a mini m & m so I stopped trying for a while because he was under an enormous amount of stress and didn't feel a need to add to it. I was in my cabinet today and spotted an bottle of his adderall just sitting there unused. The capsules are very small, so I emptied one and pushed the pieces back together as close as I could get them. I brought it to him with a glass of water and said "You're a little bit bigger and older now. Let's see if you can do this..." and voila! He got it on the second shot! I explained if he can do this, he won't have to taste the nasty stuff anymore. We'll see if that's enough incentive. You can find a link somewhere on danasview.net with a bunch of ideas on how to accomplish this. There's also training cups and straws you can buy. Good luck! -Tammy To: "mb12 valtrex " <mb12 valtrex >Sent: Mon, January 17, 2011 2:10:20 PMSubject: Re: Hallelujah! Awesome!!! How'd you do it? I'd love to get my 6 yr-old to swallow them, too. Guest guest
Awesome news! What I did to increase size if to just say " this capsule is just a tiny bigger than the last one " Our sizes were 3mg SR KAL Brand melatonin (1/2 the size of a tictac pill) Then she swallowed a green pea of her own volition. Then we did a vitamin A capsule. And then moved up to other capsules. This is my almost 6 yr old... she started doing this in June. Now she can take small pills without water (not something I told her to do) and a handful of them at a time. She will take a whole medicine cup without me hovering (one or several at a time), I just ask her and she does it. :-) My son who is 4.5 can also swallow them (he learned first) but he's still a whiner about taking them " it's too many!!!! " Tom just swallowed a capsule for the first time ever! I swear, I feel like we just conquered a mountain. If he gets good at this, we can stop mixing everything in food and drinks and smoothies.
