Guest guest
Sandy, I'm sorry to hear you aren't doing well...what happened to your foot to make it swollen? How was your Ultrasound exam? I'm curious, as I have some plans that include ultrasound technology...tell me more about it! I'm glad that the tests came back normal at least. Sandy, I see that you are not taking any Vitamin C--how are you getting this? Guest guest
Sandy, I am so sorry that you are not doing better. Bless your precious heart. We are here for you, and we will help in any way that we can. Honey, could you give Dr. Blais a call because he might know why this could be happening to you? He is not a doctor; however, he knows what these devices can do to us. We love you sweetheart...Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~````` Lea N Friends Not doing well at all ..... Guest guest
Jerilyn, Welcome to our group, and let me say first of all I am sorry if you had cancer, resulting in the mastectomies. Cancer alone is tough enough. I am really very happy to hear that, as of yet, you don't have any trouble healthwise with the implants. Your troubles have certainly been frustrating so far, but at least you have your health to be able to deal with them. Those of us who got sick from our implants have been sick at varying points in our journey with these medical devices. Some have gotten sick immediately, while others have taken anywhere from 6 months to a year to up to 10 years past initial implantation. There is no way to know when it might hit you. This is because we are all individual and biologically unique, and one person's toxic load on the organs and systems of the body may be entirely different than the next. One person's genetic makeup will be entirely different from all the others. Some people have a liver that detoxes quickly, while others have a liver that detoxes slowly. Some people have a very robust immune system, while others have a weak constitution. Some people drink, smoke, take drugs, and engage in behaviors that others do not, and even so, it appears that the most healthy people can get ill rather quickly. I was not a smoker, drinker or partyer, and I got sick in 6 months. Some women may have been exposed to any number of bacterial organisms that can create havoc in the body. Fungus can be a concern in the saline solution. There are just so many variables that it is hard to pinpoint the exact reason women get sick. And this has been the problem since day one. Nobody knows WHY women get sick from implants, and therefore they assume NOBODY does; that implants themselves are safe and the women would have gotten sick anyway. But we know that since women are getting better after explant, it is the implants. Your decision is a big one, and I am sorry you are in the position of having to make it. On the one hand, if you are not ill now, it is not urgent that you remove the implants. But on the other hand, every day that you have the implants brings you one day closer to possibly having health issues related to them. It's not true that if the implants leak nothing bad will happen. Some women get very ill after a rupture. This is because if a colony of malevolent organisms is growing in the implant, this will be released into the body, along with all the chemicals that are degrading from the implant shell. If the saline has remained sterile inside the implant, it's true, it should not create any issues, but how would anyone know if the saline is still sterile? The contents of a saline implant are not static over time, because there is an exchange of body fluids through the valve or the membrane itself. The plastic surgeon who told you that implants last forever is wrong. They will definitely need to be replaced at some point in time, and 10 years is considered the upper limit of time, though some women have had implants longer than that with no ruptures. The choice to remove is entirely one you have to make on your own. It's a hard decision. It wouldn't hurt to call the doctor in Minnesota, though we have no information on this person as of yet. If you do seek removal, please make sure you get a proper removal, using the en bloc technique, or at the least, have a total capsulectomy, and make sure he understands the need for drains. Please let us know how things turn out and what you decide. I know you will make the decision that is best for you. The whole lawyer thing make it more complicated, but don't let the money issue sway your decision when it comes to your health. There is no pricetag that can be put on health...it is priceless when you have it. Take care and God bless, Patty --- In , OBrien <jerilynob58@...> wrote: > > Dear Support Group, > I have read many of the girls stories and I myself have saline implants. > In June of 2003 I had a bilateral mastectomy. At that time my breast were removed and expanders were placed in my body. In Jan. of 2004 the expander were removed and the placement of saline implants were placed in my body. I did not like the looks of my breasts as time went on and found that the breast implants were missed label and that is why my breasts looked terrible. The implants were supposed to be 300cc, but instead he placed one 300cc and one 550cc implant in which it was under-filled and collapsed and made the other implant not symmetrical. The plastic surgeon was notified and then notified me. I saw another doctor in MN who told me they both needed to be removed and new implants should be replaced. The company who supplied the implants, offered to pay me $12,000 as long as I signed off any legal or complications to the next surgery. I than got my own lawyer and had the implants removed and new implants replaced on April of > 2006. I am still under a lawyer's care. I wish I had heard about this group before hand because I would not have had implants placed in my body. I am not sick. My new implants look fine. I am just concerned after reading these stories that maybe something bad might happen. The company that I got the implants in wants to settle for a set some of money, but I still will have to pay for my medical expenses, which came to about $38,000 and now will also have to pay my lawyer. My only concern is that in the lawsuit they also name my new implants as part of the lawsuit. I have no recourse if something goes wrong with the new ones in my body now. I talked to my plastic surgeon who tells me everything will be ok because these implants are safe and the operation was sterile so no mold can form in my body. I called another plastic surgeon who told me everything would be ok and implants are safe, but that is their business, so I know that is > why they would say that to me. I asked about explanting and they said I would have to have a complication with my implants before the surgery would be covered by insurance. Do most of the women who are sick, get sick right away? Did their implants leak? I am told because they are filled with saline that if they do leak nothing bad will happen. I was also told they would last forever, but now know they last about 10 years, and then should be replaced. One of the plastic surgeon's I talked to last week told me that. I was also wondering what clinic Dr. Lee in Edina. Mn is from. Maybe I can call and talk to someone in that office just to see how much it would cost to have these implants removed. What would you suggest? I live in Wisconsin and Edina is about 90 miles from me. > Remember I am not sick. Do you think I should have them removed? Until my lawsuit is settled I can not do anything. I do not know if I should take the deal with the new implants named in the law suit, but my lawyer said that is how it is done. They want me to go away. Let me know what you think.
