Mckella,

Feel free to ask as many questions as you like! Many others learn from them and their answers.

My suggestion would be to commit to eating each office treat completely consciously. Sit down, turn away from the computer, don't answer the phone, ideally even close your eyes, and COMPLETELY experience that cadbury egg. Focus on the taste and texture, and observe your reactions to them. Also try to notice how your body feels during and after eating them.

My guess is that if you fully engage in the experience, at the very least you'll be satisfied more quickly and won't want as many sweets, and you may even find out that you don't like those so called treats! I have found that I have completely lost interest in office sweets in this manner, and now avoid them without exerting any discipline at all, I swear! I do keep dark chocolate in my drawer so that I have sweets available that I do like, for whenever I want it.

Also, it might be that what you really need when you grab candy is a little break or pick me up, but not sugar. What if you walk to the water cooler and back, or close your eyes and focus on your breathing for a minute, that sort of thing? I think it's easy to forget that we need frequent breaks to take good care of ourselves.

I hope this is helpful! Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Abby

I know I ask a lot of questions, but does anyone have any advice for dealing with a stressful job in a workplace full of treats? When I come home every day, I'm so frazzled and full of Cadbury eggs and mint Oreos that I'm not hungry for dinner.
