We just don't kill them, period, up here. We only have three kinds that are...the Eastern Diamondback, the Copperhead, and the Water Mocasin. On our land...no Water Mocasins. The only one I ever worry about is the Copperhead because they are hard to see and more poisonous, and don't warn at all.

Since this has been one of my really good days I was gonna do a little more yard work. But I give up, I'm in for the night. Was gonna do a little weed eating so I could plant more cannas, but when I ran across 2 not 1 mind you, but 2 copperhead within 10 feet its time to give it up for the night. sure heard me squeal, I tell you that. I shot one and chopped the other one up. shudder I hate snakes, and those buggers are the exact same color as our fallen leaves. shiver shudder YUCK!!! Good thing I didn't have to pee!!

Denny uses the leaf blower all around the area that we walk through (in other words the immediate yard, house to tree line), and when we do walks in the woods we wear heavy boots and long pants.

Well thats part of the problem, we have leaves all over our yard. I told that I wasn't going to go out to the dog pen anymore to feed because I have to walk in old leaves. Nope, no way, nada. lol I guess I could ride the 4 wheeler the other way around the house.

That was our problem when we had an outside dog years ago. I bent over for the water bowl at feeding time and a rattle snake was between the 2 bowls! We've had inside dogs ever since then. LOL

Oh poop! I'd a peed on myself right there.

That was our problem when we had an outside dog years ago. I bent over for the water bowl at feeding time and a rattle snake was between the 2 bowls! We've had inside dogs ever since then. LOL

Oh poop! I'd a peed on myself right there.

OK....You want a snake story......When I was about 5 years old, we had all kinds of rattlers as we lived on the outskirts of Albuquerque...I thought they were cute, especially the baby ones....My mother walked out one day and almost had a heart attack....I was holding a baby rattler, petting it and talking to it....As she walked out, I was fixing to kiss it.....She knocked it out of my hands and took me and ran....LOL....I wasn't scared....She said I must have had it hypnotized....If that wasn't bad enough, my little brother, as a toddler, liked to play with centipedes....There was an old wives tale that wherever they crawled on your skin, the skin would rot away....Again, she came outside and my brother had a centipede crawing up his leg...He was pointing his finger at it, going a-goo goo....Another heart attack for my mother....She had a hell of a time getting it off his leg, then ran in with him screaming his leg was going to rot off....See the kind of pets we had to play with as kids.....LOL

My Nana's one cousin used to do that. I remember going to his house and he had all these cages of snakes in the basement. He would milk them...the venom is used for several different medical purposes, including the anti-venom prep...but he would also go to different schools and present programs on the snakes of our area, etc.
