Hi Everyone!

I just found out Gurze Books (known for publishing books on eating disorders, body image distortion, etc.) is allowing anyone to download a review copy of the new book, "Religion of Thinness" by Dr. Lelwica. It's written as a "self-help" book, so I don't expect it to be super-academic or written in industry-speak. I just downloaded it myself so I don't have an opinion on it, but it's published by Gurze which says a lot. Also, many of the blurbs in the beginning that recommend the book are from well-known authors such as Anita ston (Eating in the Light of the Moon), Koenig (The "Rules" of Normal Eating, The Food and Feelings Workbook), Jenni Schaefer (Goodbye Ed, Hello Me), and Jess Weiner (Life Doesn't Begin 5 Pounds From Now).

I skimmed the first few pages and she says there are two main topics in the book - practicing mindfulness, and learning cultural criticism (probably something about the messages we are given and how to look past them). From what I can tell, there is some discussion of religion, but it may be a comparison of traditional religion and the religion of thinness which actually moves us away from being spiritual, whatever that means to you.

One note before I give you the download link - I have seen a pattern with many clients that they end up collecting IE books, much like how they did with diet books in the past. Some may read three or four at a time or read one after the other without any break. Because every author is going to have her own beliefs and approach, there will be some difference in the specifics of overcoming dieting and emotional eating and it can become confusing and overwhelming. Therefore, I believe it's really important to take a "book break" every now and then and take the time to apply what you have learned. It's easy to get caught up in learning and acquiring knowledge and forgetting to put what we've learned into action. So please know if you want to get the book, go ahead and just save it on your hard drive to read when you are ready.

OK, here's the link for the download: http://religionofthinness.com/reviewcopy.html. Enjoy!
