Guest guest
Hey everyone. I've been seeing a really good dr since July. We've been slowly getting my tests done as we have the $ and finally had all the results in at my last appt. I have some food intolerances (eggs, dairy, almonds and sugar), hormone imbalances, low thyroid, candida and pretty severe anemia. He is putting me on natural hormones, thyroid and iron supplementation. And I'm starting on an anti-fungal rotation for the next 6 months. I've been taking olive leaf and probiotics for over a year and eating well. And I've tightened up my diet even more the past couple of months. The first anti-fungal in the rotation is Diflucan (followed by Nystatin and then Caprylic Acid). I'm a little scared about the Diflucan and Nystatin. I did a search on it and, as w/any drug, found people posting their complaints and terrible side effects. And I've read that both of these can even make the problem worse in some people. I know it's impossible to go off of that b/c people tend to post things like that only when they have a negative experience. I haven't read a lot of success stories about it, so I guess I'm just worried that it will cause me problems and not help my situation. I have been battling this fungal crud for so long, I am willing to do whatever I need to do. It would just make me feel better to hear from some people who had success with these drugs. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi April, One thing I'd watch for when you take the Diflucan - when I took it, I stopped getting periods. It doesn't seem like that's a common side effect, and no one acknowledged that's what caused it, but I took it a few different times and each time it had the same effect. First I'd get a really bad period with terrible pains in my ovary, and then that would be followed by no period and hot flashes for months. My sister skipped periods when she took it, too. There was no information supporting this, but I know that's what the root cause was for me. It did work very well in getting rid of the yeast infections I kept getting. I'm just passing that information along in the event you experience the same thing and don't know what's causing it. I have used Nystatin without any problems, but it isn't as fast acting as Diflucan so that's probably why they're starting you on that first. Sis > > Hey everyone. Guest guest
Thanks, sis. I'll look out for that side effect. What's interesting is that I really haven't had many yeast infections, if I do get them they're really mild. But I had a fungal sinus infection a year ago (caused by over-use of OTC nasal spray). I don't think I ever fully got over that, and also have it in my gut. So I probably have it systemically. Anyway, I'm hoping the Diflucan will help but I am concerned about its side effects.
