Hi, ,

As I mentioned in a previous post, the IE book does have information in the nutrition chapter on how to eat proactively to add to staying power of your food. By adding some fat and protein to your meals (in combination with carbohydrates), you can make the time between meals stretch out. Similarly, if you leave these things out, you'll "burn through" a meal faster if it is mostly carbohydrates (bread/grain/cereal/fruit). You could experiment with how much and what kinds of things you eat in the morning to try to avoid getting hungry during class time, or not being hungry at lunch time. Weight Watchers had a similar concept of "filling foods" that they encouraged you to eat with protein and a little fat--basically anything that has a lot of fiber in it, like whole grains or vegetables or some fruits, like apples (skins add fiber). I actually like being able to use this as a tool when I know I won't be able to eat for a certain stretch of time and don't want to get too hungry.

Where I work, we mostly go out for meals, and I've become familiar with the menus of the places around my workplace and can therefore plan ahead on what I'll eat at lunch and plan my breakfast accordingly, and also I can easily modify my lunch if I find I'm hungrier than anticipated according to my actual hunger level. I find going to the same places kind of comforting--no surprises of foods I would rather not face on a work-stressed day.

IOWL podcasts and work schedules

So, I was wondering if anyone has heard of the Inside Out Weight Loss podcasts? I have started listening to them and since there are about 130 or so, I plan to try to listen to 1 a day, unless the "assignment" is too much to accomplish in a day. I plan to buy the IE book this next payday, I was just curious if anyone had used the podcasts to reach their goals as well. I am excited and scared about the up and coming experiences. I find it very difficult to wait until I'm hungry to eat, but am getting better at the stopping when satisfied part of the deal. I just get impatient and dwell on when that hunger signal is gonna show up. I'm an elementary school teacher and we just started back to work, so that is difficult as well, what with having lunch breaks to go out to eat everyday. It'll be even more interesting when I have kids in the classroom and I won't be able to sit down and have a meal or decent snack if I get hungry other than my lunch time. If anyone has tips on how to do IE while at work, I'd appreciate it! I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but since kids start back next Wednesday, I don't know if I'll have the book by then and I know I won't have finished it since I want to take my time reading it. Thanks again!
