Guest guest
Mark, The purple pill in Nexium and they do have a generic brand which is much less expensive. Ask your doc about it. Also, metforman can cause stomach distress. What has happened with many people is to eat some low sugar yogurt before taking the pill. Yoplay yogurt has a light yogurt which has only 16 grams of carbs in it. If you ea only half of it and save the other half for the evening dose, then that is not many carbs in the day. Your heart pain may be angina, which can happen when your sugar is running high. If you have angina, t does not show up on the various heart exams. Did your heart doc give you any nitroglycerine to use when you get those heart pains? Also sometimes stomach pain can seem like heart pain ( I have had that happen often.). When that does happen to me, I use a dose of nitroglycerine to stop the stomach pain. This is called " referred pain " . You really need to cut down on the amount of carbs you are eating to get that A1C down. Multiply 13 times 18 and that will tell you how high your average daily blood sugar is. I'm surprised the doc did not put you on insulin. Maybe he is waiting to see how the metformin is going to do. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Friday, June 10, 2011 3:26 PM To: blind diabetics Subject: could it still hurt after 4 years? I know it has been upsetting my stomach in a bad way for a week now. I certainly hope the A1C will come down if I got to put up with the sick feeling like I'm going to lose my cookies. then in the hospital they put me on the purple pill because I told them it feels like there is a knot in my throat all the time. they said that is a complaint of folks who have reflux problems. Well this little pill is higher then a cat's back. I only pay $42, but my insurance pays $170 each month. I bet it won't be long when I will be in the doughnut hole as they call it. Guest guest
Mark, I forgot to mention your chest pain. I had heart by-pass 20 years ago and if I rub the sternum where it is wired together, it still hurts. So I don't rub it! But it sounds like some of your ribs were broken when they were reviving you, so you may have arthritis there. It would show up in an x-ray, so next time they do a chest x-ray, ask them if they see any calcification there. As long as it doesn't hurt when you are not touching it, then just leave it alone. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Friday, June 10, 2011 3:26 PM To: blind diabetics Subject: could it still hurt after 4 years? Guest guest
he did say if the 2000 of metformen doesn't bring the A1C down soon, then he will put me on some kind of insulin that I only take one shot a day and he said it should work to control my sugar. I have cut way down on the carbs per day now and it may help when I go back to be tested in July. I know when I was in the hospital over the weekend, they tested my sugar every four hours and it was always high. early Saturday morning when I hadn't ate anything for more then 12 hours, my reading was 210. they always give you insulin by the needle while in the hospital. then they give you a meal that they say is a diabetic meal. But I knew better because there was to many carbs on the plate and after I ate it and they checked my sugar, well it was over 200 again. I am going to ask for the cheaper brand of the purple pill for sure. I can't afford to get in the doughnut hole. They told me there isn't a cheaper replacement for the purple pill. but I believe you over them. thanks for all the good information. could it still hurt after 4 years? Guest guest
he hasn't gave me any nitro. I will ask him about it though. why do you multiply 13 by 18? I did and 234 sounds right. but how and why does this work? I suppose 13 is my A1C, but what is the 18? I buy the dannon yogurt and it only has 15 carbs. I keep it around and think I will start doing that like you say. They told me the day of my stress test to skip my bp pill that morning. why would they not have me take my blood pressure meds? could it still hurt after 4 years? I had my cabbage, open heart by-pass back in 2007 and then coded ten days later. they probably broke some ribs jumping up and down on my chest, but 26 minutes later I rejoined the living. But this split on my chest has never stopped hurting. I can press on it in certain places and it will hurt really bad if I push to hard. I heard that when the weather is cold or wet that this can make a place you had cut open on your body hurt. is this so? Will the pain ever go away? I have wondered if I could have some kind of authoridus in the place where they wired me back together. I told the heart doc, but he just says after all my chest had to go through that month he isn't surprised that it hurts and that is all he has ever said about it. also have wondered if that spot where they wired me together, could it ever get infected after all these years? I go for a chemical stress test next week because I have been having some chest pain. but when they run the test they run in the hospital nothing shows up that says there is a problem with the heart. Now my A1C was 13 about six weeks ago and the doc put me on time release metforman, 1000 milligrams twice a day. Do you think this could be causing the chest pain? I know it has been upsetting my stomach in a bad way for a week now. I certainly hope the A1C will come down if I got to put up with the sick feeling like I'm going to lose my cookies. then in the hospital they put me on the purple pill because I told them it feels like there is a knot in my throat all the time. they said that is a complaint of folks who have reflux problems. Well this little pill is higher then a cat's back. I only pay $42, but my insurance pays $170 each month. I bet it won't be long when I will be in the doughnut hole as they call it. When that happens I will have to make a choice to pay the difference or go back to the knot in my throat feeling. the purple pill has helped that feeling go away though. Well anyway was hoping some of you may have an answer for me. thanks for any advice you might have.

Guest guest
some times it will hurt worse when I'm laying down and then at other times when I'm sitting at my pc desk, but it hardly ever hurts when I'm standing up or walking. some times I got to take a pain pill because the hurt is to much to bare. but I hate taking to many pain meds. well 20 years ago was a long time ago and you are still kicking and doing grate. would say though by keeping your A1C where it needs to be is why you have been with us for 20 years after. I do good for a week or so and then I eat crap I shouldn't eat and before I even know it I'm eating to many carbs at one time all over again. but got to get it right because I hate the pain and feeling out of breath all the time. I weighed 330 four years back when I had the open heart and now four years later I still weigh 315 and no one's fault but mine. I've got down to 290 and then shot back up. I know the damage done to my heart the first time isn't being helped by my not losing pounds. I can only shake at the thought of now my 80% heart is pulling around the same weight as before. it sure makes a fellow wonder why I can ignore such a bad thing and not stay at it?It's no different then folks who do the same thing over and over hoping for different results. my daddy only lived ten years after his open heart by-pass and I know it was because he wouldn't give up his old ways of eating bad. so here I go following right down the same path he chose and I don't wish to do the same. Well no one can do it for us. we each have to make up our own minds and take the bull by the horns. I suppose it simply matters just how important life is to you and how much do you enjoy being around for those you love and who love having you around. This list has told me how and why and what fore so many times and still I ignore most of it and look at the shape I am in now? I use to get stupid when my A1C went to eight and now it is 13 and I don't seem to have what it takes to get it under control or I would be all ready doing it. well I guess the good Lord needs to throw me down in the dirt and drag me on my face for a while before I will wake up. you would think after coding and being dead or what ever it was I was for 26 minutes, you would think life would be more presents to me now? Of course it was for about one year and then after that the drive left me to try so hard. so easy we can lose control and our eating habits return right back to the way it was before the heart attack. so easy it is to let up for just a moment and not stay on top of it every day. It seems harder to regain the strength to fight on every time you let it slip away. It is kind of like losing lots of weight and then you gain it all back and more then you had before, all because you let your guard down and you let up. well sorry I am crying on your shoulder to night. just needed to get it off my chest I guess. I've had those chemical stress test done before and I don't like them at all. they say they make your heart think it is exercising. well the q I got is what if there is some blockage and your heart started throwing up on it self during the test? my doc never wanted me to do the stress test on the treed mill because he thinks since I'm blind I would fall off. I don't try and explain to him that when at the Jym I haven't ever fell off yet. ok, thanks for listening to me ramble about all of this. you really have helped me more then you think. in fact, every one on this list has helped in the past a lot. I love this list and always read everything you guys say. I don't always do as you say I better, but that is no fault of yours. I'm only to blame for my yesterdays. but to morrow is a new day and a grate place to start doing as well as I can doing it one day at a time. when I think about losing over 120 pounds it over whelms me and I never get started. but now I'm not going to concern my self about how much or how long it will take. I'm only going to concern my self about to morrow and just getting through one day to morrow. I can't do anything different about yesterday or the day after to morrow, but I can control to morrow and this is where I'm starting to pull this 13 A1C down and drop some weight while I'm at it. I thank god every night for this list and you wonderful folks who have walked the walk and have proved to your self that you can also talk the talk to those who will listen and live! God bless. could it still hurt after 4 years? Guest guest
Mark, Have you ever tried going to a weight control group like Overeaters Anonymous? Maybe someone on the list who has had weight problems can help out here with mark. You sound like you might be a binge eater. That is like binge drinkers and often need some psychological counseling. I don't remember where you live, but you cold ask your doc for a reference to such a place. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Friday, June 10, 2011 7:44 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: could it still hurt after 4 years? some times it will hurt worse when I'm laying down and then at other times when I'm sitting at my pc desk, but it hardly ever hurts when I'm standing up or walking. some times I got to take a pain pill because the hurt is to much to bare. but I hate taking to many pain meds. well 20 years ago was a long time ago and you are still kicking and doing grate. would say though by keeping your A1C where it needs to be is why you have been with us for 20 years after. Guest guest
I don't know how accurate this is, but supposedly if you multiply 18 times the number of your A1C, it gives you your average daily blood sugar. Dave and Harry are probably more up as to the correctness of this than I am, but it seems to work for me also. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Friday, June 10, 2011 7:14 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: could it still hurt after 4 years? he hasn't gave me any nitro. Guest guest
Gee Mark, Even if I am wrong about the purple pill, I know there are other pills that will reduce the acid in your stomach. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Mark Ruth Sent: Friday, June 10, 2011 7:09 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: could it still hurt after 4 years? he did say if the 2000 of metformen doesn't bring the A1C down soon, then he will put me on some kind of insulin that I only take one shot a day and he said it should work to control my sugar. Guest guest
Hi, I don't post much, because I am not very knowledgeable, and I have a lot to learn! Mark, thank you for have the nerve to post such a great message! I think that you have sent us all a message that we al should listen to! Vicki, thank you for your wonderful comments! Amy, thank you for opening up to us! This is a great list with very knowledgeable people and some wonderful examples! Thank you all! I find that if I look at the whole big picture, it gets very scary! So, what I find helps me is to think in smaller chunks! If I need to cut out junk food, I try to tackle one item at a time. If I need to lose weight, I think one pound at a time! If I think of exercise, I think of a few minutes at a time! So, perhaps those of you who need to lose a lot of pounds, if you look at the big number, it can get very scary, and seem impossible. Perhaps, a goal can be, " by the end of the month, I would like to lose 2 pounds " this is what works for me! I wish that I had better advice for you! As you said Mark, there are no magic tricks, and only you can do it! One thing that we can all do, is to be by your side, and support you all the way! Some time ago, we were posting our BG readings, and I found that very motivating! Would the same thing work for junk food, weight loss and all of that? We all need regular reminders, support and a little pat on the back once in a while! And, from time to time, a good kick in the back side!! could it still hurt after 4 years? Guest guest
I'm sure there must be some great doctors in Houston Amy. I made up an anachronism for diabetes care: DREAM. D is for diet, R is for responsibility of doing BG, visiting docs, doing medication , E is for exercise, A is for attitude and M is for medication. I think attitude toward the disease is what makes people do the other things. Sometimes seeing a counselor or joining a support group can help with a person's attitude. Both Oklahoma City and Houston must have some sort of group. Maybe you could look on the computer for such a thing. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of amy cooper Sent: Saturday, June 11, 2011 6:44 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: could it still hurt after 4 years? oh wow i know i am not doing good either. last year i had lost 30 pounds and gained it all back and then some the scale isnt working right now but i am over 275 probly more and i need to lose weight despertley. i need a support system and we need to get and keep some of this junk stuff out of the house i dont want to go through what mark has gone through i am on cholestrial meds as well need to find a doc after moveing here to houston havent had an a1c in over a year i still have my meds i am takeing so i am doing that this is just so hard staying on a good eating plan but i know i need to change and needs to be now . could it still hurt after 4 years?
