Anne,

I received another reply to your questions about disability.

Here is what one of our girls said:

Patty,

It took 2 years to get my Social Security disability approved. It is a

mess. My advice is to definitely use a disability attorney. Most

attorneys take their cut from the retroactive pay you get once you're

approved -- you get retroactive pay back to the date you first filed.

Expect to be turned down once, maybe twice and appeal. It helps to have

doctors who are willing to go to bat for you and fill out the paperwork

the attorney gives them.

After waiting for so long for mine to be approved, I contacted my

congressman and his office called to check on it for me. Turns out my

file had been sitting on a desk for months waiting on a signature. The

father of a friend of mine had been waiting a long time to get his

approved and contacted a congressman to help him too. It seems like it

speeds things up when someone like that calls inquiring about the case.

It's worth a shot anyway. I'll pray that something works out for her

soon. I know exactly what that feels like. Thanks for sending her

message on to us.
