Guest guest
April, I agree with you.....those websites are lifesavers! www.stopthethyroidmadness.com also has an associated group where you can post messages like this group and talk to the women with thyroid issues and knowledge in treating. The link for that group is: NaturalThyroidHormones/ and they have another group for the adrenals here: NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ A warning though.....the messages are over the top! You will be bombarded....like 1500 messages a week! Per group. But the help they offer is amazing. April, are you on thyroid meds now? Patty > > This website has been a great help to me in understanding thyroid > health. The second link is for the forum. Guest guest
> > April, are you on thyroid meds now? > Patty > I will be in the next few days. My RX's are being mailed to me from the compounding pharmacy. I'll be starting on natural hormones, thyroid (not sure which one) and in 2 weeks Diflucan. I also found out I am intolerant to eggs, dairy, almonds and sugar. AND I am pretty severely anemic. So I've cut out those foods and am taking an iron supplement. It sure is good to have some answers. But the diet changes are a little difficult. I was already eating a pretty strict diet. So cutting out more things (especially protein sources) is hard. I am hungry a lot! I am glad to get going with the hormones and all of that, but I am also a little scared about it. It feels like gearing up for another battle in a way. I'm not sure how my body will react to these new things. I'm just praying all the dosages will be just right and I'll feel better, not worse. I'm just so ready to get on with life! Guest guest
April, I think you'll find a huge difference with the thyroid meds. Do you know if you've been diagnosed with Hashimoto's or not? One thing I can tell you based on my experience is that starting on thyroid hormones will be something you have to work through for a few weeks. It's not like I felt great from the first pill. It was like my body had to adjust to the presence of the hormone and after a few weeks things started smoothing out. I hope you have a great experience and you feel better fast! Let us know how it goes. I'm curious if your experience will be like mine. I'm glad you found answers to your allergies and your anemia. Eating a strict diet is no fun! But I found that if I focus on what I CAN eat, rather than what I can't, it helps tremendously! As for the protein sources, how about lentils and peas and beans? Those are great sources of protein, and if you like to experiment in the kitchen, you can come up with some great recipes. Actually, pound for pound, lentils have more protein than steak! We love lentil soups, split pea soup, and bean soup in our house, especially during the cold winter months. You're on the road to healing....and God is with you. You've got alot to be excited about! I'll be praying for your healing. God bless, Patty > > > > > > April, are you on thyroid meds now? > > Patty > > > > I will be in the next few days. Guest guest
No, thankfully I do not have Hashi's. And my thyroid is just slightly low. I think it has improved a lot on its own since getting the implants out. I hope you are right and things smooth out quickly. I know getting the hormones and thyroid straightened out will make a huge difference. Yeah, I am definitely having to be more creative in the kitchen. I like to cook, so that helps. Lentils and beans are a good idea. I've had trouble w/those causing major bloating for me. But I just read recently that if you soak or sprout them first they are more easily digestable. Have you ever done this? Does it make a difference?
Guest guest
April, I'm so glad you don't have Hashi's! I was diagnosed in 2002, over 4 years past explant, so I was quite shocked when the naturopath told me I had it. It's true that soaking beans will help keep the bloating down. You can also take enyzmes with your meals to help with digestion, or hydrochloric acid to make sure you have appropriate amounts of HCl in your stomach for good digestion. I've soaked beans before cooking. I've sprouted seeds for use in sandwiches and salads. A great cookbook that teaches traditional methods of food preparation is called " Nourishing Traditions " by Sally Fallon. It's full of great info and recipes.
