Guest guest
Hi, I'm Cheryl been an overeater for awhile. Have lost over a 100lbs a few times. I have problems with overeating mindlessly in the afternoon while watching Tv. I get upset with myself, depressed, failure, ect. I want to stay motivated and eat healthy because I want to feel better about myself. I don't like my self image and I am at the largest size clothes I got. Just would like to get to know some of you and your words of wisdom to treat myself better so I feel good about myself. Cheryl
Guest guest
WELCOME, Cheryl!! I'm glad you decided to join our group. Have you read the 'Intuitive Eating' book by Tribole and Resch? That will help you learn to love and accept yourself as you are, no matter what you weigh, as you learn to eat more intuitively. Recognizing your problem time (afternoons) when you mindlessly eat is the first step to taking control and changing what you do while watching tv. You may want to try doing something else besides watching tv for awhile. Or you might try doing a hobby (like sewing or knitting) that requires clean hands, while you watch tv. I used to eat every meal while watching tv or reading. However, I often wanted to eat past comfortable fullness, because I felt cheated when I noticed I felt full. When I didn't concentrate on the food and eating, I felt full before I got to enjoy the food. It felt like I ate while I slept, felt full, but missed all the enjoyment of eating. After I committed to eat without distractions sitting down at a table, I eventually felt cheated if I ate standing up at the kitchen counter or while watching tv. I no longer want to miss the flavors, textures and tastes of anything I eat. So learning to mindfully enjoy your meals, by avoiding distractions, eating slowly and really savoring every bite may eventually help you prefer 'mindful eating' at a table without distractions to eating while watching tv. That mindful eating style may help you recognize fullness and stop eating sooner, because you get to enjoy the meal so much that you get bored with eating.
