Guest guest
I saw the show and I like how honest she was about her binges and restrictions. I am attending her book presentation this wed in Wedtowood I will keep you posted A > > > Hi, , > > I had the show taped, too, and saw it a few days ago. It did sound like she was doing IE! I found her remarks about being shamed--both by her mom's unwillingness for her to go " public " with her sexual orientation, as well as the disparaging remark of the high-fashion dresser about her being " a size 8 " --had resonance for me, too. In a culture that worships ultra-thin women who are size zero, it's hard not to feel shame at a larger body size. Portia was never obese--her highest weight was 160-some pounds on a 5'7 " (I think that's what she said) frame means that she never felt the scorn heaped on the obese, but still she was mortified by being anything but anorexic-thin. The lesson I took away from that was that in this culture, you can't get thin enough to feel good about yourself; that has to come from within, but without much cultural support for it. No wonder this is a lifelong journey! > > Laurie > > > > > > > Portia de Rossi on Oprah > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > I don’t have time to watch TV during the day as much as I would like and so I end up taping a lot of shows and watching them when I can. I happened to tape Portia de Rossi’s interview with Oprah that aired sometime last week, I think. Anyway, in the interview she talks about her philosophy of eating and it sounded like it was straight out of Intuitive Eating! She said that she no longer restricts anything she eats, that she eats what she wants when she wants it and food has lost its control over her. Also, she views exercise as a way to feel her body move and feel good. I thought it was interesting not only for what she said but that she came to this way of life because she was severely anorexic and bulimic. > > Did anyone else see the interview? I’m sure you could find it on You Tube or something like that if you were interested. > > >
