Guest guest
Personally I eat both types of rice (including red and black and sticky) . I still stand by evidence which shows that white rice (while less nutritious) does not increase cases of diabetes in Asians on the whole so my original argument was not about "rice" at all but rather villifiing food as being "bad" or "good" based on very non-rigourous psuedo-scientific studies... like the poor maligned egg... or the carbohydrate. Personally I would prefer the evidence of a billion people rather than a study that perhaps looked at a group of 35 vs a control of the same as my own evidence of good eating practices. I was not really even talking about rice at all. But rather our health is a determinant of a whole variety of factors and it is almost impossible to isolate one dietary choice as a big factor in overall health.Americans on the whole are so food obsessed as health items in a way I am unsure is healthy for us psychologically or even healthy physically. Case in point there was a study done where Americans and the French were told to look at a piece of chocolate cake and give words which described what they thought about it, Americans used words such as, "guilty, fattening, unhealthy" the French used words like, "celebration, happiness, enjoyment". (I can cite this later if you want) I think there is something really important there about Americans and how we relate to food on the whole. That reminds me of my friend who for her birthday I bought her a lovely DELICIOUS choc. mouse cake we and her group ate it and it was amazing.. during eating and after she could only make disparaging comments about the cake, about her thighs... it made me sad. Most women cannot even enjoy a birthday cake here in the US. there is something deeply disturbing about that :(JennaTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Fri, February 11, 2011 6:59:09 PMSubject: Re: white rice None of what you've said negates that rice processing and the wide-spread sale of WHITE rice began only with the industrial revolution. It also doesn't address that brown rice is seen as the food of poor people.Moving from collecting rice to growing it specifically in plots does not address wide-scale, shelf-stable industrial processing. But we can agree to disagree on this. I'm OK with that. You stick with your white rice. it leaves more brown rice for me. Subject: Re: doctorsTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Friday, February 11, 2011, 2:20 PM I see nearly a billion Chinese people (not to mention the millions of other Asians) eating white rice without issues.... for centuries... I am not conviced white rice is as "bad" as they say it is... perhaps its this years "egg". Be a PS3 game guru.Get your game face on with the latest PS3 news and previews at Yahoo! Games.
