Guest guest
Love, love, love this book. I have engaged in disordered eating for most of my life (I'm 59 and just new to IE) and I have finally connected with an explanation of why I may do this. The author Anita ston, PhD, found that in her clinical work with women with eating issues she noticed that these women have a particular trait in common - they are highly intuitive - able to pick up on subtleties in conversations or tensions, to notice patterns in behaviour or inconsistencies between what others said and what they did. Although intuition can be a gift, when interpretations of what is perceived are distorted by self doubt and low self esteem....well, this just means trouble and results in a plethora of uncomfortable self destructive feelings. And many of us know what to do when we feel those....eat, eat, eat! Of course the author goes on to address this problem. And man oh man is it ever a problem for me. I've always felt that I was very intuitive - short of psychic - but able to know what's been going on before being told and I can now see what a problem this has been for me. I have difficulty with relationships of any kind and therefore get very hurt and lonely and I eat, eat, eat. The author uses myths and stories to make her points which I'm not crazy about but the text between the " stories " is bang on for me. Hope somebody else can benefit from this way of looking at things, as I have. Bonnie
