Guest guest
Try super low and slowly work your way up. Some people with methylation issues can't tolerate folic/folinic - so that's somethin to consider. I'm interested in any responses you may get - my son's dan wants us to do a trial of 5mthf even though we've agreed to stop the b12. I never think to email him and ask why until this subject comes up. I'm going to go do that now......From: jkryan34 To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, January 27, 2011 6:01:00 PMSubject: Bad reaction to folinic acid My son's new DAN just prescribed 200mcg of folinic acid in addition to his mb12 which he has been on for 2 months. While his behavior improved on the mb12 significantly, he became overly sensitive, weepy, clingy with OCD. His DAN wanted him to try folinic acid again even though I told her that in the past, it made him extremely hyper. She wants me to try it for a month! Today, after taking 200 mcg of folinic acid for 3 days, he got in trouble at school for being "too goofy." This means very stimmy and disruptive to the class (he hasn't been in trouble since Sept.) Has anyone else had this experience w/ folinic acid? I am so frustrated.... Am I really supposed to allow my son to get in trouble at school? How can I try this for a month? I feel like his doctors are not listening to me!
Guest guest
My dd has been like that with Vit E. Nothing but problems everytime I introduce it again and with high Vit E foods (although, admittedly, a lot of the high Vit E things we would have is quite high in oxalates). I wonder if your son's reaction to folinic acid could be attributed to yeast? My dd's yeast seems to get worse with folinic acid and MB12. Guest guest
You might also consider switching to 5mthf or folapro instead of folinic. It's a more bioavailable form and many that do terribly on folinic do better with 5mthf or folapro. Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~~@Gryffins_Tail~ I say if he was doing great on the MB12 remove the folinic......some kids just can't tolerate....and you have to live! -- Kasey Dettinger ---- Alberta wrote: > My dd has been like that with Vit E. Guest guest
b6 may need to also be put in, in a more broken down form like p5p (b6) kirkmans has a p5p with mag combo I would recommend. my son does awful on b combo type things as well but does well on this one. folapro again is the same thing, broken down to the simplist forms so the body doesn't have to do it, which is often the case that our kids can't do that. a lot of that comes form EFA trasmition issues. you can do an essential fatty acid test to find out what cycles are broken down. let me ask you a few questions. did he have failor to thrive, low tone ect? Christel, I've heard that before. Do you know why he does so great on Folapro? I'm starting to look into the Yasko Protocol since my son does not tolerate many supplements that are so helpful to others. Whenever he doesn't do well on a supplement, I want to know why because I feel like that's so important to solving this puzzle. Does your son tolerate B6? Mine does not, and I've been trying to figure out why for the longest time. Most DAN doctors and nurses have just said to stay away from it, but he's deficient in B6, and I feel he needs it. I really wish his doctor would help me figure out why he doesn't tolerate B6! Thank you again for your insights.> >> > what brand are you trying?> > > > > > > > From: jkryan34 > > Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2011 6:01 PM> > To: mb12 valtrex > > Subject: Bad reaction to folinic acid> > > > > > > > My son's new DAN just prescribed 200mcg of folinic acid in addition to his mb12 which he has been on for 2 months.
