Guest guest
I've recently been in communication with an old high school friend several states away. He's an amazing widower and single parent to two boys both with different types of ADD. His 13 yr old has huge issues with impulsivity in the classroom, way above average intelligence and what they are calling below average maturity. Dad is incredibly open minded and plowing through Amen's book on the topic at my suggestion. The 13 yr old takes Vyvanse currently. Would anyone please give me their top 3 suggestions for supps to address impulsivity and hyperactivity? I'll certainly have him cross reference any supp against the Vyvanse with his pedi Thanks, in advance. This is an exceptional dad would could really benefit from the experience of this board. Guest guest
We use GABA and L-theanine. My DAN says not to have protein at the same time as the GABA, to increase absorption. Guest guest
My favorite supps for ADHD:Attentive Child (because you don't have to buy separate supps - but I would suggest doing so at first just to make sure all are okay)Piracetam (works as well as or better than ADHD meds according to the ADHD man in my house (dh) ).Phosphatidyl Choline (because racetms (like piRACETAM) are choline depleters and if you don't take it, you'll get a gnarly headache - dh ignored that part when he ran out once and ended up in the ER after 3 days of use and when the headache finally hit, he thought he had a tumor or something).Like stimulants, they doesn't solve the problem but does help the symptoms. Guest guest
We've been seeing a DAN for about three years now, and it's worked wonders. You probably will hear about specific supplements, which I endorse as well. But one of the things that really helped my daughter who is now 10 was neurofeedback or biofeedback. 20 sessions is usually the therapy to improve a behavior. Your neuropsychologist can target specific pathways in the brain that is causing the behavior, and then forge new pathways with the biofeedback. Biofeedback, along with biomedical, was the road to our daughter's recovery. W

Guest guest
Diet change numero uno! Without diet change to heal the body, the supplements that he tries will be less effective. No sugar, no gluten, no cows milk, nothing but fruits, veges fish, rice cakes, coconut ice cream as a treat. Rice milk, etc... I was the first one that said "My kid won;t eat that". YES, yes they can and will if you try slowly and start with the raw fruits and veges that they like. First there will be withdrawals esp from sugar. Fish oils, the good standardized ones [Eskimo oil is the one we use} helps with withdrawals. Then start tests for biomeds. What may be needed for 1 child may not be what his child needs. Bio meds needs to be customized to suit the childs levels. Jay Robb brown rice protein powder is really good tasting and is full of vitamins/minerals their body is craving. He has to remove the processed foods and think like this, If God did not make it from the earth or the seas then it should not be a part of our daily intake. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thanks to all who responded. I will put the suggestions together concisely for him and pass them along. In case he decides to go that route, can anyone suggestion an exceptional DAN! in the area of Reading, PA? If nothing else, I'll be suggesting in Edison, NJ. I worry that dropping him into the deep end of the DAN! protocol will totally overwhelm him (he's got enough on his plate) but I'd like to have a name ready for him when he reaches that conclusion on his own. Again, thanks to all for taking a minute to help out!To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, January 27, 2011 9:50:52 PMSubject: Re: ADHD first steps Diet change numero uno!
