Guest guest
B12 - lots of it. (methyl, of course) Milk and wheat inhibit the uptake of serum b12, so a gf/cf diet can help significantly. (Loss of speech is a sign of B12 def. - there is a great book out there called: " Could it be B12, the Epidemic of a Misdiagnosis. " -- there is a GREAT deal of info there that is very useful. How to read tests, which test to ask for, etc.) Also, on a side note, a young man at Jimmy's speech I noticed had JUST started speaking (he's about 12) his father said they had just started B12 shots! laura > > HI all: > My daughter is non verbal. Guest guest
DMG/TMG are the biggies. If one doesn't work, try the other before giving up. If you're not sure which to try first, TMG is the least expensive (though neither are pricey). Also l-carnitine, choline., methyl b12, and b6 : ) To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, January 27, 2011 7:34:17 PMSubject: Re: speech HI all:My daughter is non verbal. Guest guest
I did not know that milk and wheat inhibit the intake of B12. I would love to share that with Tom's dan. Where did you find that info so I can pass that along? I'm saving this post for the next person who shows up here very upset and concerned because people have told them if their child does not speak by the age of 6, they never will. Bah! I say! And that boy is living proof! To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, January 27, 2011 7:42:25 PMSubject: Re: speech B12 - lots of it. Guest guest
I think it's in that book (that I mentioned). Now, in all fairness, I was reading a few books at the time. (I have a book in all the places I feed Sam!) -- but that one seems to make sense. I will see if I can find the excerpt. I know my sis has Crohns (also a B12 def) once she cut out wheat and milk, she was able to get off all her meds, and her B12 went from 'normal' to less than normal. (meaning it was in the serum, but wasn't being used.) -- there's 2 tests. B12 serum test and to rule out a def. it's called the MMA test. You can also do a HCY test (Homocysteine) -- which also will tell you if the B12 recycle pathway is broken/deficient. (mutated, which I think requires another test...) I actually got the HCY test done for my Dad, and I ended up arguing with the Dr. because she was going to put him on heart meds (which is just DAMN stupid) -- I faxed over copies of the pages that outlined what I wanted her to do. She ended up giving him a B12 shot. THe man had a stroke, not a freakin' heart attack, but let's just try to kill him so he can stop using up the Social Security...idiots! That I guess is why they say " practicing " medicine...ugh. Don't get me started... laura > > > > HI all: > > My daughter is non verbal. Guest guest
In my house, these are what helped speech (or at least what I noticed was helping speech - other things may have contributed but this is what I attribute it to):Speech therapy/child development therapy DMG - first thing we did when we first started biomed. On that year's father's day, my son fell, cried, and said, "I want momma!" DH and I both cried, DH didn't care that he was asking for mommy on father's day . He gained a lot of words but didn't really pick up on the sentences.AIT (we used Therapeutic Listening) - A huge jump in comprehension and self-regulation.Antivirals - Wow, is all I can say. He went from simply having words to having sentences. Lots of them.Antifungals - another big jump in language when we added antifungals a month after starting antivirals.LDN - really helped with pragmatic language. Guest guest
Fascinating - We stopped the b12 earlier this month because we weren't seeing any difference. At the same time, his IgG for wheat came back at a III . IgG and IgE for casein negative, BUT IgE for cow milk was a II. So now you've got me thinking. we've moved on and there are other goals currently in the works, but I just might do a trial of B12 with the elimination of gluten and milk. I've learned so much today!! To: mb12 valtrex Sent: Thu, January 27, 2011 8:04:12 PMSubject: Re: speech I think it's in that book (that I mentioned). Guest guest
Cheryl, Can you tell me more about the therapeutic listening? My PDD daughter has poor articulation (she speaks in sentences - just very hard to understand). Also, she is 3 1/2 and absolutely refusing to potty train. I have been told by her OT that therapeutic listening can help with the brain/body connection, which in turn helps with potty training, sensory issues, sleeping issues, etc (she has all of these). If you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts/experiences with this, I would appreciate it. Guest guest
If your therapist will do it, I would do it in a heartbeat. It was awesome for us. You can do it yourself if you need to, there are many home programs (we used www.vitallinks.net through both the SD and early intervention). It *does* help with the brain/body connection. The most areas I found it helped - self-regulation and expressive/receptive language. If you decide to do it and have questions, I'm happy to help.I know a lot of people that were helped in the sensory department (my son wasn't so sensory so we didn't see much there because there wasn't enough to see).I can't say if it did or didn't help with potty training - we started it well before getting there so I don't know. We started it at about 2.5 and potty trained him at 3.5. Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~~@Gryffins_Tail~ Cheryl, Can you tell me more about the therapeutic listening? My PDD daughter has poor articulation (she speaks in sentences - just very hard to understand). Also, she is 3 1/2 and absolutely refusing to potty train. I have been told by her OT that therapeutic listening can help with the brain/body connection, which in turn helps with potty training, sensory issues, sleeping issues, etc (she has all of these). If you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts/experiences with this, I would appreciate it. On that year's father's day, my son fell, cried, and said, "I want momma!" DH and I both cried, DH didn't care that he was asking for mommy on father's day . He gained a lot of words but didn't really pick up on the sentences. AIT (we used Therapeutic Listening) - A huge jump in comprehension and self-regulation. Antivirals - Wow, is all I can say. He went from simply having words to having sentences. Lots of them. Antifungals - another big jump in language when we added antifungals a month after starting antivirals. LDN - really helped with pragmatic language. Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~ ~@Gryffins_Tail~ HI all:My daughter is non verbal. Any suggestions for supplements that you all have used that increased vocalization and communication?
Guest guest
With Rob, he too - his serum b12 levels came back normal -- yet, he had EVERY sign of B12 def. I argued with his DAN, and she agreed (unwillingly) to do the nasal (which I think Rob does the best on)...and HOLY COW what a difference. It was night and day. She agreed too -- within a month -- it was like his processing speed went from 0 to 60. It was very obvious. Now, he just got tested again (she did a serum B12) that came back severely def. - he's been gluten/casien/wheat/dairy free for over a year, he gets shots daily, and still showing def...I am like WTH! Although. After reading your posts, I might not be giving the shot correctly. My sister (other one, not the one with Crohns) is a nurse, and she has been administering the shot (because he's in FL) and she said that I might have been going overboard. Whoops! So, we are going to revisit it again...but, I think the explanation was - essentially - and in not so many words -- wheat/milk products create this sticky mucus that covers up the villi in the small intestine (where vitamins are taken up) - once you remove this sticky mucus crap, the villi are no longer 'matted' down, and can do their job. The sticky mucus creates this environment where after a period of time, they (the villi) shrivel up and die, (not good)...so getting nutrition is difficult because this avenue has been severely injured. Since nutrition is how the body functions, and this avenue is impaired, then regardless of how much you eat, or how much 'healthy' things you eat, you might not be maximizing the potential for nutrition. In the Ann Louise Gittleman book " Fat Flush " , she touts drinking a glass of warm water with the juice of a 1/2 of a lemon each morning upon rising. This helps clear out the mucus. I am pretty sure that Cliff Sheats " Lean Bodies " also says the same thing, and I know that Max Gerson was into no dairy or grains or meat -- for that very reason. Mucus. So I keep reading it over and over...so lemon is good for mucus. I always put it in my juicer drinks. Also good for the liver. Can't go wrong with that. laura > > > > > > HI all: > > > My daughter is non verbal.
