Guest guest
I just keep turning over in my mind how injust it is for the KOs, and how society willingly turns away from this evil in the home. What can we do, as KOs, to save the next generation? I wish we could make this board required reading for every mandatory reporter. There is no denying our experience. What can we do?? Seriously -- please, if you have ideas -- please share them. Laying awake at night, Tina
Guest guest
Sure you could do so but know if he shares it with his BPD mother (if he's that out of it and enmeshed) you may get some lash back from her. Still, at 18 I was still pretty clueless and such information might have really helped me, so I say go for it. > > > > I have been thinking recently about a former friend (BPD) and her son (KO). Don't think her son has any idea what's going on, and I strongly suspect he's been split black. Which all of you know is a special sort of hell. > > > > Anyway the BPD recently tried to hoover me back in on facebook and I ignored her. But I can't stop thinking about her son, who is probably around 18 now. Perhaps it's worth looking him up and giving him a link to the indicators site to see if he finds anything familiar there. > > > > I just remember him having the same sad listless " why bother " look that I had in high school. Guest guest
Something I noticed - my son's taking AP Psychology, so of course I looked up BPD in his textbook to see what the author would have to say about Grandma. There was about a page and a half - of the entire text - devoted to Personality Disorders. Of that, a short paragraph described BPD. That's all. Yet it looks to me like there are a LOT of undiagnosed BP's out there, and they each have a family going through confusion and torment. I just don't think we're that rare. Add to that, BPD looks so different from person to person - there have been a few movies with BPD characters, and one rather sordid made-for-cable movie called " Borderline " that got the behaviors right (but the BPD was a stalker, not a mom or dad). This is awfully hard to pin down and explain in the 15-second sound bite, 6th grade reading level that popular media seems to demand. Heck, some of us can't even convince our moms' psych doctors that she has it! I truly don't know what the answer is. It's a mess. > > > Subject: Required Reading > To: WTOAdultChildren1 > Date: Saturday, August 28, 2010, 6:29 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > I just keep turning over in my mind how injust it is for the KOs, and how society willingly turns away from this evil in the home. Guest guest
Yeah that's what I'm thinking!..We would need to approach the media. maybe Our stories can be told in half hour segments. With people reenacting our childhood as we tell our stories (hidden off course) Though as I say this I'm thinking what if it get negative publicity..or what if it becomes something to joke about. But on the same hand..it would bring it out in public view..People would know what it is,,they could recognize the behavior. at least know sometimes it's well hidden. I have been thinking about this. Years ago verbal abuse or spousal abuse was one of those hidden things Now we have centers for battered women and verbal abuse is not tolerated...all because someone stood up and said this is wrong we need to address it being a victim of BDP is like emotional rape...shouldn't something be done about that too?
