many yrs ago my son was on valtrex. this was when he was younger, like right after being diag. anyway, took three separate tries before his body "accepted" valtrex. he was like a monster, practically foaming at the mouth and everything. i know what you are going thru. i had to keep him out of school for a few days etc. i stopped because the reaction was so horrible. i waited a few months and tried second time. same thing. third time, it took.

initially, i did see gains on valtrex. but, not much after several months. i continued to give valtrex even though i stopped seeing gains. eventually, i stopped.

only you know how much you can handle with this. i know what you are going thu. there are so many biomedical interventions out there, sometimes hard to separate thru all the reading. if your child's lab work show high for viruses, valtrex may help here. but again, i had to stop, wait a few months and try again. it was that bad!

I do feel he responded cause of the rasheds but we could not safely continue. WHat I did not realize at the time was that he has PANDAS and was most likely exposed to strep around that time. The PANDAS caused the wild behavior and not the valtrex. You may have something else going on.

He thinks it's viral upheaval and possible yeast die off......He told me to give

200 mg of ibuprofen 3x a day for the inflammation. That is not helping much.

He did mention maybe celebrex would help.....but I hate adding more insult to

injury with prescription drugs.....

Thank you all for your words.....I do think we might be at a place where we have

to stop.....as much as I don't want to. The Dr. Said in his opinion stopping

and trying again down the road won't cause resistance.....unless you keep doing

it.....so maybe we will come back to it.....I just don't know what else to do.

RUN to your dr and get him tested for strep you just discribed PANDAS to a T and it's treatable and you can get QUICK results with the right antibiotic

RUN to your dr and get him tested for strep you just discribed PANDAS to a T and it's treatable and you can get QUICK results with the right antibiotic

are you doing anything now to treat the PANDAS?

, I know my son has PANDAS.....we did 6 months of IVIG and it as going well until his anxiety and OCD got so bad we could not come near him with the IV. No matter how much sedation we tried it always backfired. So - we had to stop and it broke my heart because I felt like it was helping him. So then we did the respen A which he is still on - and it did a really nice job of putting him more on an even keel....but not really helping much else. So I wanted to try the antiviral.....I just don't know what to do, because you're right....he could have been exposed to something else and this would happen.
