Guest guest
I have the same feelings you do. I also find it a hassle to have to change clothes, take a shower after, etc...In the end I feel like I make more work for myself by exercising because I have to wash more clothes and give up an extra hour of my day. -K > > I can't imagine doing much of it just for the good feeling tbh. Guest guest
Lots of good ideas form people... Here are my two cents . .. The Four Day Win is by Martha Beck (mentioned by someone else) and is a pretty solid approach about changing behaviors reasonably & gently, w/o guilt & shame & all the ick we can bring. She's a life coach with an eating disorder and many other interesting tales in her past. (Writes in Oprah & is on the show sometimes.) These days I am walking a lot and doing some exercises in my house. Put my gym membership on hold for a while. One simple thing to help me do the exercises is that I have a post-it-note on the closet door to remind me. I write the day & the # I did. Sometimes four days will do by with a '0' and I get back into it. These exercises are from a previous PT and are hard - BUT the require no change of clothes or equipment or tons of time. Still, have I done them today? No. Maybe later... I do find the post-it will just remind me, and sometimes that's all it takes. Also, my dog loves to walk, so that is fun for us to do together. PLUS, one more piece for me... lately I've been practicing intuitive bodywork, as best I can. Recently I am not sleeping well and am really sleepy & tired. So there have been days I was going to hike or walk and instead, - I napped. Not because I was lazy, but because my body wanted rest. It seems like a natural extension of seeing what my body needs, and giving myself permission to supply it - - whether it's food, exercise or sleep. I am learning to listen. Best of luck to you. > > > > I can't imagine doing much of it just for the good feeling tbh. Guest guest
Hi, Did you have a good Mother's Day, Sohni? Hope the boys really pampered you! Thanks for the good suggestion! Actually, we're looking at getting another dog. We used to have two dogs. You didn't walk Molly and Maggie; they walked you! Jeanne

Guest guest
Hi Jeanne, I did; it was relaxing, at least! I was being a little tongue-in-cheek, but having a dog really is a good way to get you out and moving. I've walked with dogs for so long that I can't imagine walking without one--and it means I have to walk even if it's "too cold," "too wet," "too windy," etc. Can't make excuses if you want a healthy dog! Guest guest
Hi Sohni, Glad to hear you had a good day! I don't think there is any harder job or more important in the world than being a mom! Not only were Molly and Maggie wonderful companions, they were great walking companions. When they were ready, they'd look at their leashes and then looked at me. And if I didn't do anything then, they'd start whimpering. Needless to say, we didn't train them, they trained us! Since we were unable to have children, my girls were my kids! So what if they had fur, four legs and a tail! Jeanne

Guest guest
I adore my dog. She is a bit of a special needs pup because she's shy, so I've had to spend many, many hours bonding with and training her. She's much more responsive to me than any other dog I've had--kind of nice since my kids are now teenagers and much less responsive...snerk. Anyway, we also do an agility class once a week which would be pretty good exercise for me (running along with her) if I weren't such a clod and always worried about tripping over my feet. She's fast; I'm not! Sohni Hi Sohni, Glad to hear you had a good day! I don't think there is any harder job or more important in the world than being a mom! Guest guest
We simply need to learn how to play again as adults! There are so many creative and fun ways to move our bodies. For example, I actually learned about Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) on this group about 4 months into my IE practice. I invested in a game and a mat, borrowed my brother's playstation 2, and had a great time! I never thought I would buy a gaming system for myself. I bought a PS2 to play DDR and also found some puzzle games that I like too. Guest guest
Abby, Beware of Wii Fit...I've read and been told that the Wii Fit game will tell you that you're fat! The bodies of the little Mii figures representing you will actually blow up (e.g., get fatter). I'm boycotting that game into I hear that the programming has been updated. I did try the Wii Sports game when I was visiting my family last September. I didn't get much lower body/large muscle action that I get with DDR and love...alot of upper body movement. BTW, I'm still on the DDR beginner mode after 2 years. The medium and advanced modes are crazy! I simply change the setting to speed up the beginner mode, have fun, and get some great movement in...you can work up a sweat. What's great is that you can see your all time best score and moves and challenge yourself. The latest games I have also have pretty recent Top 40 music. > > That's a great idea! Guest guest
Abby, I'd love to hear about your experience, if you do try gaming. I wasn't big into video games either. Playing DDR doesn't feel like a video game because I use my feet to control the game...no hand controls. You can get used PS2 systems really inexpensively. Also, I remember that the woman who posted on this group about DDR hurt her ankle a bit while doing the two feet jumps. Sometimes I do the jumping and am careful to pay attention to how my ankles are feeling throughout the process. If I start to feel any aching or soreness, I stop. Usually, I turn the jumping off. It's a great option during the winter too. Can you tell that I'm into this? > > > > > That's a great idea!
