Guest guest
I tried to chew my food really slowly yesterday as I was having dinner. I made the effort of counting and I have heard we should chew about 20 times. I could barely get to 15! I noticed that eating quickly is not good and I am trying to slow down but it is so hard Any suggestions besides counting? A
Guest guest
A, What I do is first drink a glass of water before every meal. This naturally puts a damper on a portion of my hunger drive (we are 75% water and most of our bodies are calling for water more than food!). This is vital, because it is very difficult to eat intuitively if we are in a state of desperation biochemically. I do this before every meal or snack. Period. Next, I take some deep breaths and take in the atmosphere. I look at the table setting, the people sharing my meal and listen to the sounds around me. I give thanks for everything that I am consuming, with my mouth and with my senses. Eating at a meal or snack is not just a time to eat food; it is a time to slow down and savor everything that life has to offer. I believe that food is such a powerful portal to discovering the good and abundant nature of life. When I start to eat I imagine that this is the first time I have ever eaten the food. I want to discover every layer of experience it has to offer. I take a small bite (too big of a bite can overwhelm your ability to chew properly), put the fork down, and just focus on feeling. I do not count the bites - but I do swallow once I feel that my taste buds have gotten their chance to dance, and that the food is a liquid. I hope some of that helps!! > > I tried to chew my food really slowly yesterday as I was having dinner. I made the effort of counting and I have heard we should chew about 20 times.
