Hello everybody,

My name is . I am new to the list. I am 39 years old. For several

decades I knew something was wrong with my mother - but I always thought it was

her substance abuse problem that was the main issue. Several times over the

years I dabbled in the idea that she might be a Borderline, but it was too

unbelievable or for whatever reason it didn't stick. My dad died last week and

I went to a therapy session this morning to process it. Part of that processing

was discussing my mother (as it always has been the case) and my therapist

clearly labeled her as a Borderline and I very clearly heard it. I am reading

what I can about about it and just joined this group. I feel like a bomb of

revelation has been dropped before me - my mother is a Borderline. She will

never change and I need to stop fighting for what I will never have and never

have had from her. Wow - I feel a sense of freedom and comprehension now that

there is a name for what she has and and an explanation for who and what she is.

I would LOVE to hear from others of you out there, adult children of Borderline

mothers who have gone on to make happy, healthy lives for themselves. I have a

wonderful husband and a wonderful life. I have been emotionally blocking myself

from starting a family because I don't want to be like my mother - and I think

I'm one step closer to understanding so much. This is my firs time doing an

online support group, so it would be great to hear some pearls of wisdom from

some of you. Thank you -

welcome !! I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad. My father died

this past may. I've been married for 29 years to a most of the time a great

guy ( we all have moments when we're not so pleasant LOL) It can be

done...you can be happy even though you were raised by a BPD parent !! I

loved the book Understanding the Borderline Mother by Lawson ( or

something like that) she describes my nada ( not a mother) perfectly, as

well as my father, who did nothing to protect his children from nadas

rages, and abuse. Unless you HAVE BPD, you will not be like your mother...

Lora, yes it comes from time to time.

I was sitting at my desk at work not to long ago and my blood sugar dropped to

48.

I was in dispatch by myself.

My brother Dan described to me yesterday about one time when it happened to

him and how he had the presence of mind to overcome it before he passed out.

He had some pop in the refrigerator and after he had that and relaxed for a

while the symptoms went away.

I have had small episodes of feeling what I call the queezy Willies for a

couple years now if I don't eat especially after I get up.

I wonder how long I have been a diabetic or something close. I will mention

before you feel too sorry vfor me that I was sometimes drinking a two liter

bottle of pop in a day or maybe a day and a half sometimes. That is the

hardest part.

I had Dan pick up about 15 bottles just the Saturday before on the 11th and

I found this all out on the 13th.

I sold one of them to our friend Jim who is our boarder for a dollar.

I really do not want to sell them all at this point but as of yet I have not

opened another one.

If I should start feeling woozy I have a couple Little Debbie nutty buddies

in my butter compartment and can break a very tiny piece off. You guys will

probgably say all this will pass including my obsession with food.

Thanks, Amy,

As I just wrote you, I am really working on focusing my eating to get on a

schedule and not going in the kitchen at random as I have done much of my

married life.

It is a real struggle, I think much more than just becoming a diabetic.

Introduction

Hello To Everyone,

I am Lora Leggett and I live near Detroit, Michigan. I am 58 years old and

have been blind since birth. I am married to who is sighted but has

cerebral palsy.

We have a daughter and a son who are adults now. I have a history of

diabetes in my family and I found out this past Monday that my blood sugar

tested very high whenI had blood work done. So the doctor has given me

glyburide once a day 500 mg plus an antibiotic for urinary tract infection.

They said the sugar was 435. I had never heard of a number that high

except when my brother drove himself to the hospital in 2009 and found out

he was a diabetic among other things and his number was over 600. So I have

had to start modifying my diet big time.

I started downloading several books from the BARD web site and learning

about counting carbs and all sorts of things.

My brother Dan brought one of his meters over and tested me this afternoon

and I was at 156.

I guess I am not out of the woods yet but he figures I am working on it.

I have ordered a talking glucometer and a talking scale. I was very

uncomfortable when he was showing me the procedure but I hope with time I

will catch onto it.

We have a visiting doctor because my husband has been very ill

recently and is now in bed all of the time.

Dr. comes once a month so I have not had a chance to talk to him

since this result came out. My new meter should be here within the week I

hope.

So I was told I haven't been called a diabetic yet but friends have told

me that if that number was 435 I probably am.

I look forward to learning more from this list.

Nice to meet all of you I don't know and to see some of you who are

already friends here.

Lora
