Do you find dying more appealing? Or does the very real possibility of

developing severe complications excite you? Well, if you had to one day go on

insulin, a little stab from an insulin injection a few times a day is a pretty

small price to pay to avoid the above! But perhaps you can maintain better

control and keep on with the oral meds.

You are right about those needles. I remember having to boil them, sharpen

them with a flint stone and keeping them and the glass syringe in a jar full

of alcohol. Once in a while the needle would get a small hook on it for

some reason and if I did not notice, it hurt like h--- getting a shot with

that needle.

very well put and straight to the point, dave, thanks. ya know, one thing i

bet some of you older diabetics don't miss are those large needles from

years ago? now they're so ultrafine you barely feel it.

They were one half inch long. And in the old days, I don't think any of us were

using alternative areas, such as the abdomen. It was always only in the leg.

Although, most of us only took one injection per day.

You have some very true thoughts Dave and very disturbing if you let

yourself think about it for long. I hope I will stay on oral but the test I

did earlier today which was my first successful one on my own did not give

me any indication that I have any control at all. I thought the strip could

be defective but I thought about a couple things I was eating and also the

fact it was shortly before I was going to take the medication. It also took

me three attempts to get enough blood in the test strip. Thank you for

taking so much time answering my questions and musings.

Fear can be a strong motivator! The up side of all this diabetes stuff is that

it is manageable. Many of us on this list will testify to this statement. It

takes a change of lifestyle, and this can't be easy if you get diabetes later in

life. In one way, my diabetes diagnosis at age 11 was easier to handle since I

didn't have much of a lifestyle change to overcome.

Well, yesterday it said 421. But the other day it said Low without giving a

number. According to the guy at Prodigy I should not pay a lot of attention

to the results I get because he said these test strips have probably been

sitting on the shelf a long time because they came packed with the meter.

Boy the prick I got from the lancit this morning really hurt a couple

minutes. I felt blood there but the test strip did not react at all and

does not show up as used.

I will test again later or tomorrowand consider this little batch of strips

for learning purposes.

I am waiting for all the machinery to work with doctor, insurance, and

pharmacy.

The guy at Prodigy might be right. But if you ate high carbs and then

tested before taking your meds, it might be right. Usually when it says

" low " , that means you did not get enough blood on the strip.
