Maylene and 'All' - Thanks for your good info and suggestions. I found a place in the same town where my son lives that rents them by the week (I'm just staying a week). So that works for me...but I have to pay and then can submit on my own to MediCare...is that what most durable medical equipment suppliers do? About later on...at what point is one 'put' on oxygen? Does it have to do with the amount of good lung tissue, the percentage of oxygen in your blood, or what? There are so many things that I know nothing about and will have to research and learn enough to at least ask sensible questions. Hugs - JoanM

Joan,

I'm glad you were able to find a vendor to supply you with a POC when you are in Denver. It will undoubtedly make your visit more enjoyable because you'll be able to be mobile more confidently!

As to your oxygen question. Your doctor will prescribe supplementary oxygen for you when and if your lungs ability to provide oxgen to your body is sufficiently compromised. You will generally fall below a certain level of oxygen saturation in your blood during some type of exertion such as a 6 minute walk. Usually you have to fall below 90 or so to "qualify" for supplementary oxygen.

I've been on O2 since my diagnosis. Without it I would not still be here. I think all of us have a love/hate realtionship with it but ultimately in spite of the frustrations I'm grateful for it because it allows me to function and enjoy my life.
