Principle 2: Honor Your Hunger

Hello all!!!

This chapter is thick, but important.

1. The first thing I think we should do is re-write a synopsis of

what happens when we diet or don't honor our hunger, in FIRST

PERSON. Notice what stands out to you in pp. 61-70 (in the hardcover

version...don't know if those are the same) and explain that in your

own words. " When I wait too long and don't eat, I know that my liver

is deprived of carbohydrates. I know that the fear of hunger becomes

terror. " etc. I work on affirmations a lot, and I know that putting

terms in first person can be VERY effective.

2. Do you use any of the hunger silence, numbing, dieting, chaos, or

skipping breakfast? What do you use, or what works in your life to

silence hunger? What are you thinking about doing to change this?

3. How do YOU experience hunger? Check p. 72 for cues if you don't

know yet. Any other hunger cues that you've noticed?

4. Do you understand the difference between taste, practical, and

emotional hungers, and are you well-on-your-way to observing all of

those with self-compassion?

5. How do you like the Hunger Discovery Scale? Have you ever tried

journalling or using this scale before/when you eat? Have you ever

used a similar scale in diet programs? (For instance, when I did the

weight watchers core program we had to use that scale to interpret

when we were hungry. For me, I can't think in " numbers " because I

get too diet-focused.)

6. Any other questions, comments, declarations of where you might be

on your journey?

Thanks all. this is a little late, Thursday...as I usually do Sunday

to Sunday. If most of you reply before sunday I'll move to the next

chapter, but otherwise may not post this Sunday to give people time

to respond. Let me know what you think. I've just had work

stuff...and sometimes that has to take priority!

Cheers,
