Guest guest
I like the word " buddy " so that it does not feel like an AO or AA meeting. I am open to the idea if anyone wants to connect with me. Guest guest
I will say this though this group has voiced itself often to be anti-OA: I am in OA and am both a sponsee and a sponsor. That, to me, is what OA is about rather than the strong restriction that relatively few members engage in and are by no means official OA philosophy.Having a sponsor is great. Being one is actually more beneficial.I'd be happy to buddy up with anyone or group of anyones... Regarding a sponsor, I have a simple suggestion: Recently I put the word out on the IE group that I wanted to have a "support buddy" to check in via email everyday, as an experiment.I have been "meeting" with my online buddy daily and I find it a completely liberating experience. It's like having someone "on your team" who really understands the daily struggles. It such a different experience than doing this on my own, with my crazy mind that fights itself.I feel like a whole new door opened for me and I hope to continue to do this for a long time. People can even rotate once a month (some people may not want to do it more than a month). I know there were 3 other ladies on this group who were interested in doing this.KateShe has audio material call "what to do in the middle of e binge" and what to do after.I haven't heard it in a long time.I may have time later today and I can share what it says. However, from my own experience, when I am in the middle of one, I don't go to get my Ipod to listen to Geneen. I tried to ask myself questions:whay am I eating?why can't I stop?what am I trying to cover or numb?is it related to something that already happened? then the eating can't change it.Is it realted to anxiety about something that is about to happen? then I need to get to my journal and write about it.Actually journals are for me a great way to stop the binge. I write the binge and then I am not busy eating.Did yoiu think about getting a sponser? like AA or OA suggest? or email someone from this list? This is a suggestion for everyone, shall we put consider supporting each other by opening up to the idea of a sponsor? someone we can call in the middle of a binge or before?just a thoughtA>> Does Geneen or any of you have any strategies for when you are in the midst of a binge? > > I don't know how to stop it once it has occurred. Guest guest
The Appetite Awareness Workbook suggests committing to not eating past moderate fullness during a binge (but does not say you can't binge at all).Do you think this would be a useful strategy? Does Geneen or any of you have any strategies for when you are in the midst of a binge? I don't know how to stop it once it has occurred. I can just eat for days.
