Guest guest
my wife was having trouble with the regular version of metforman. When she went to the diabetic education center, the nurse that worked with her suggested switching to the XR version, which has pretty much removed the gastric problems she was having. HTH Gastric effects of metformin If one is having them try splitting the dose into 3 times or more a day instead of the usual 2. Take it with meals. Many people find good results using the slow release forms. These should not be split but a smaller tab more times of the day might be in order. All of these have the effect of keeping a more constant level in the blood. Spikes in blood level are associated with gastric effects. Guest guest
Actually, that is how I was able to finally get it somewhat under control, by taking 2 500mg tabs in the morning after breakfast, then one after lunch and one after dinner. This brought more relief, but hasn't illuminated the gastric issues completely. I see they have an Extended Release tab which seems to be covered as well by my Humana so I'm going to talk to my doctor and see if he will switch me to those instead. I'm also going to try the Yogurt thing mentioned by Pat. Thanks. Rick From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of .dan.
