Guest guest
Hey Guys, I think we've talked about this before, but what metaphors help lighten your load? Like do you compare your relationship with the FOO to anything that makes you smile. I just heard someone say something about " the flying monkey squadron " and that made me laugh so hard. It just helps to have a metaphor that helps explain it and lets you smile. I'll tell you mine. Many many years ago, back when I started saying goodbye to my FOO, I was newly divorced, 28 years old, and dating a guy. I told the guy a story about my FOO, and he said " wow, sounds like a total freak show. " So, since then " Freak Show " has been my mantra for coping. And its great because there is actually a song by Ani DiFranco called Freak Show that starts out " Life in the circus aint easy. .. " So when the going gets rough, I sing that song to myself, remind myself that all I did is retire from the freak show, and go on with my day.Even thinking about it in those simple terms makes me feel a million times lighter and like I can handle this. I was born into a Freak Show, but I don't have to work there for the rest of my life. And what would I have been? An exotic dancer? A contortionist? Trapeze artist? We all had our roles. . . . Okay, maybe a weird topic, but look up that song and see if it helps you. XOXO Girlscout
