Looking at Hemp as a source of EFA's. Looks like good stuff. Does anyone know anything about the hemp and/or hemp protein powder mixes?

How do they taste? Are they easy to mix into smoothies?

Alberta, have you seen or tried Cool Hemp icecream at your grocery/health/natural store(s)?

I'm not sure what you want EFAs to do in your situation, but let me tell you what hemp has done for me. Now, I'm fighting different demons than most on this list. I put a heaping tablespoon of hemp hearts on a bowl of oatmeal every morning. My stools changed dramatically, immediately. I started pooping like my grandsons. Half-dollar circumfrence and twice daily, like axe handles. When I saw what was happening, I figured I'd cheat a little. I added black walnut to the mix. Black walnut chases parasites, and what came out of me shouldn't be in a living person. I realize that most of your kids seem to have a leaky gut problem. It might be better to go with the whole food rather than powder or ice cream. You'll still get the EFAs and the flavor of hemp hearts is sweet and nutty.

Damn hardest part of removing cow's milk is the icecream. He loves lemon sorbet, but lemons came back elevated (of course). I need good stuff to mix his supps in. Toni's head would spin completely around her shoulders if you guys ever saw the peanutbutter, supp combo. But it gets the job done! Well, I shouldn't say for certain because I know barely anything about food and digestion. But other than the small handful of foods that came back elevated, he shows no physical GI signs. His poops are good, regular, well formed, not particularly stinky and regular in color. The "opiate effect" has been gone for years now...the veil, over, time, just lifted. All around, he's just good in the belly dept. His highest elevations were cows milk- which wasn't intended for human consumption- so that didnt really come as much of a shock (and aside from all the delicious yumminess, I have no problem ditching it). And gluten. Which honestly, surprised me....I know, call me a dumbass - considering it's a huge culptrit in this circle...but he's never had the physical GI

symptoms you hear parents report. It started to make much more sense once explained the mucous that gluten forms (even when it's well digested). Now, I'm not so surprised anymore. I do believe that could be an issue. I'm almost convinced that Tom is a viral kid and he had an enormous exposure to so much crap when I was pregnant and in his first couple years of life. We were renting a farmhouse with high iron well-water flowing through old copper pipes...I don't even know what pesticides were being used in the area(we were surrounded by farms). After we left there, we moved into a very old house which went through huge renovations while we were there (Holy lead!) Our next house was also an old house/new renno deal with brand new everything. Including carpets. My poor kiddo was socked with alot very early on. I did breastfeed for 2+ years - but

sometimes I wonder if I did more harm than good after all those years of eating like shit, smoking, and drinking too much coffee. I probably didn't have much left for him, ya know? So, while I know certain foods will only aggravate his symptoms and hurt his immune system, I don't see it as a causal factor, you know? I'd feel safer to say that it's more so a lack of better foods and nutrients that got us here. I had no clue what real nutrition meant. I'm really only beginning to learn now.-TammyFrom: Toni Marie Lombardo

We are in the same boat. I didn't really think my kids are gut kids, though removing items has helped a lot. Being on LOD has helped too. I just think as long as my kids are suffering psychological symptoms and having reactions to food, there is some sort of leaky gut going on. Maybe not a massive issue, but partial. I think my son is a viral kid, and not quite sure what is going on with my daughter, other than thinking the flu vaccines I got while pregnant and b/f sure didn't help. But I guess what I'm saying is that no matter what the predominant problem or genesis of the problem WAS, that all the problems pile on because of the dysfunction that started.

So, maybe it started with MMR and a child gets the gut problem... then leaky gut, and viruses take advantage and yeast etc... or maybe it was a stealth virus while the baby was inside you, and it's chronic attacking led to some dysfunction that caused something else, etc...

Sorry to be so long-winded LOL I think I'm trying to say it comes down to some sort of mitochondrial dysfunction and if there is mito dysfunction, there are going to be a whole host of problems, big and small. That's why it's not about a magic pill, a magic diet, a quick fix... that's why there are people doing this 5+ years. Sigh.

Ah, coconut...if ONLY we could do that. Unfortunately, coconut is tolerated by neither of my kids. Coconut gives me problems, too. It gives me some wicked heartburn, too. Tammy, I'm not sure I understand why I would have hemp -- does it help with parasites? In the beginning, about a year ago, I tried chocolate hemp milk and Maia just didn't like it. Wanted nothing to do with it. We definitely have oxalate issues in my house. We have moved to medium oxalates and she is dumping and dumping and dumping...through urine, stools, and maybe even in other ways I haven't recognized yet. I know leaky gut is an issue because of the stools and because she gets the opiate effect from eating things she shouldn't (although the opiate effect no longer happens because we've been gf for a while now). When she has gluten, she gets diarrhea. Also, when she eats anything, her little belly pops out (this indicates to me that food is leaking out of her stomach and forms gases, which gives that popping out effect on her little belly). My son doesn't have a leaky gut and he can eat as much as he wants and his tummy does not pop out.I also have indication that she's viral (actually, not just her, but both my kids). When Maia was around 6 to 7 months old, she broke out in this rash throughout her body. I had taken her to our family doctor, who told me back then that it was "heat rash", even though summer was over, even though the weather had already started to cool down. The rash persisted for a long. Then it grew scaly. And then I was told it was "eczema" when I took her back. And now, after reading posts, I'm convinced that it wasn't "baby acne", or "eczema" or "heat rash". At around 3 years, even after our diagnosis, this same head to toe rash emerged again. I tried calling our telehealth line, who again told me it was "heat rash". No, it wasn't. They were wrong. After someone mentioned it on here and I saw pictures of what it looked like and how both my kids had this exact same rash, what I was seeing was roseola. I believe this virus is laying inside them and anytime their immune systems weaken because of one thing or other, anytime they're exposed to certain foods like soy or gluten, it grabs hold again and rears its head. This is why I think it's viral in both my kids. My son had this same rash over the summer and this is when the regression into autism began to really occur (although prior to that, he had some indications of sensory issues).I think we've cleaned up our diet as much as we can for the time being and I think that I need to reduce oxalates to address the iodine issue. I know that both my kids are dumping and oxalates are present. I think oxalates are also doing a number on their ability to use iodine. And, in turn, this wrecks havoc in various pathways, including but not limited to methylation and thyroid. I also think the immune system is not behaving appropriately and we have a mucous problem when they come into contact with certain foods. So, first order of business for us...reduce oxalates, increase iodine, address parasites and pathogens, and then hit the viral component. Not sure what this will do in terms of addressing ASD but the oxalate build-up, presence of parasites and viruses cannot be a good thing. We'll address those and take it from there.

We're doing SCD right now because we need to.  I just couldn't get the chronic loose stools to stop any other way.  Now that we've been SCD, stools seem to have firmed up for a few weeks now.  We had a gluten infraction the other day with Maia getting into the fridge and getting into some pasta daddy had made for himself but couldn't finish and put in the fridge.  But after it passed with diarrhea, stools firmed up again.  For the time being, we need to be SCD and reduced oxalates with her.  All fruit is peeled and cooked.  All starches are gone and I'm boiling the hell out of everything before giving it to her.  She definitely does not tolerate any foods high in oxalates or SCD illegal.

It doesn't really matter what she eats, her belly pops out after she eats.  I don't think this is " normal " because I don't get this with my son.  Broad spectrum enzymes seem to reduce the popping out and this is why I think it's a leaky gut.  I also find that igg issue stools have a very distinct smell.  Anytime she has an infraction, I can smell it.  It smells like sickly sweet mixed with mothballs.  When she eats starches that just cause an IBS reaction, that smell isn't there.  I can smell the igg issues when they occur.  I can smell it if she's had soy or gluten and those are confirmed igg.  Other things like beans, rice or olive oil which cause IBS, the stools don't have that same smell.
