We are in the same boat. I didn't really think my kids are gut kids, though removing items has helped a lot. Being on LOD has helped too. I just think as long as my kids are suffering psychological symptoms and having reactions to food, there is some sort of leaky gut going on. Maybe not a massive issue, but partial. I think my son is a viral kid, and not quite sure what is going on with my daughter, other than thinking the flu vaccines I got while pregnant and b/f sure didn't help. But I guess what I'm saying is that no matter what the predominant problem or genesis of the problem WAS, that all the problems pile on because of the dysfunction that started.

So, maybe it started with MMR and a child gets the gut problem... then leaky gut, and viruses take advantage and yeast etc... or maybe it was a stealth virus while the baby was inside you, and it's chronic attacking led to some dysfunction that caused something else, etc...

Sorry to be so long-winded LOL I think I'm trying to say it comes down to some sort of mitochondrial dysfunction and if there is mito dysfunction, there are going to be a whole host of problems, big and small. That's why it's not about a magic pill, a magic diet, a quick fix... that's why there are people doing this 5+ years. Sigh.

Well, I shouldn't say for certain because I know barely anything about food and digestion.  But other than the small handful of foods that came back elevated, he shows no physical GI signs.  His poops are good, regular, well formed, not particularly stinky and regular in color.  The " opiate effect " has been gone for years now...the veil, over, time, just lifted. All around, he's just good in the belly dept.   His highest elevations were cows milk- which wasn't intended for human consumption- so that didnt really come as much of a shock (and aside from all the delicious yumminess, I have no problem ditching it).  And gluten. Which honestly, surprised me....I know, call me a dumbass - considering it's a huge culptrit in this circle...but he's never had the physical GI

symptoms you hear parents report.   It started to make much more sense once explained the mucous that gluten forms (even when it's well digested).  Now, I'm not so surprised anymore. I do believe that could be an issue.

I'm almost convinced that Tom is a viral kid and he had an enormous exposure to so much crap when I was pregnant and in his first couple years of life.  We were renting a farmhouse with high iron well-water flowing through old copper pipes...I don't even know what pesticides were being used in the area(we were surrounded by farms).  After we left there, we moved into a very old house which went through huge renovations while we were there (Holy lead!)  Our next house was also an old house/new renno deal with brand new everything.  Including carpets.  My poor kiddo was socked with alot very early on. I did breastfeed for 2+ years - but

sometimes I wonder if I did more harm than good after all those years of eating like shit, smoking, and drinking too much coffee.  I probably didn't have much left for him, ya know? So, while I know certain foods will only aggravate his symptoms and hurt his immune system,  I don't see it as a causal factor, you know?  I'd feel safer to say that it's more so a lack of better foods and nutrients that got us here.  I had no clue what real nutrition meant.  I'm really only beginning to learn now.

Tammy,How do you know there is no leaky gut? Food allergies are linked to leaky gut??

Thanks.  Thankfully we have no leaky gut here, just some food sensitivities so I'm looking for the EFAs primarily for brain food for my older guy.  But from what you've shared, it sounds as if my little guy could benefit from it.   I'm just not sure to to use/ eat the stuff.

I'm not sure what you want EFAs to do in your situation, but let me tell you what hemp has done for me. Now, I'm fighting different demons than most on this list. I put a heaping tablespoon of hemp hearts on a bowl of oatmeal every morning. My stools changed dramatically, immediately. I started pooping like my grandsons. Half-dollar circumfrence and twice daily, like axe handles. When I saw what was happening, I figured I'd cheat a little. I added black walnut to the mix. Black walnut chases parasites, and what came out of me shouldn't be in a living person. I realize that most of your kids seem to have a leaky gut problem. It might be better to go with the whole food rather than powder or ice cream. You'll still get the EFAs and the flavor of hemp hearts is sweet and nutty.

Looking at Hemp as a source of EFA's. Looks like good stuff. Does anyone know anything about the hemp and/or hemp protein powder mixes? How do they taste? Are they easy to mix into smoothies?Alberta, have you seen or tried Cool Hemp icecream at your grocery/health/natural store(s)?
