Guest guest
I'm struggling with this one a bit. If I'm not in binging mode I don't have a problem with eating "normally," without anxiety about calorie count or anything like that--but if I do get into binging mode it seems to be another thing entirely. I feel very Jeckel/Hyde sometimes. I'm trying very hard to be focused, but what I'm finding is that if I get too tired/stressed/frustrated with life in general, I react by binging. I know this is a reaction of habit, so I need to reorder my approach to those triggers, but of course at those times I'm not in the mood to reorder anything, lol. I keep telling myself it's a journey. I do have junk food in the house, but not everything I could possibly think of. I have noticed that my binges are transitioning a little, from completely unhealthy foods (candy) to some unhealthy and some not so bad (candy, cheese), and they're not as full-out as in the past. So at least I'm aware that being overly full isn't comfortable. I did the going through the forbidden foods list in the past (ala Geneen Roth), but it didn't work for me, because I'd never get sick of the foods I craved, or at least not permanently. Now I just try to eat the food that I'm craving, and focus on turning off the binging switch as soon as I can if I can't stop it before it starts. I am new to the IE approach but am exicted/scared to begin, and appreciate any advice/suggestions/shared experiences you all have. Currently, I am struggling with the "eating whatever your body wants" step. I have a deathly fear of gaining weight, and eating whatever I want has always triggered my disordered eating habits. Any tips you have as to how to convince your mind to truly give permission for eating anything is greatly appreciated. Did anyone find that they simply binged on unhealthy foods all the time through this step? Have you actually done as the IE book suggests and bought large amounts of previously forbidden foods to have in the house? This idea frightens me! If so, did you go through the forbidden food list one at a time (i.e. bought boxs of donuts, but no other forbidden foods) until you've gotten past the cravings for them, and then move on to the next? Thanks so much!
