I started out on Imuran 100 mg and prednisone 30 mg. Had multi side effects, mostly weight gain of 20 pounds in 6 months, horribly shaky hands, and lots of swelling, also depression has gotten worse. Had to up the Cymbalta to 60 mg and am more than likely going to be placed on an anti-anxiety medication when I go back on the 15th next month. Currently, I have been diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome from positive blood test (am having salivary gland biopsy Tuesday morning - YUK!!) and now the Imuran dosage has been raised to 150 mg a day, but my prednisone was cut to 20, then 10, and now 5 with hopes of tapering off. My pulmonary specialist in Birmingham thinks the prednisone is where the weight is coming from and he wants me "healthy and lean." So far has been 2 weeks and I have managed to keep off only 5 pounds, so I am not so sure the prednisone is what was causing the weight gain, but he seems to think so. I have taken prednisone before in tapering doses for bronchitis or poison ivy flares and always lost weight on it. Anyway, that has been my experience so far. Have 2 doctor appointments this week - one with my regular pulmo tomorrow and one with oral surgeon Tuesday, plus have pulmo rehab Wednesday and Friday, but not sure about Friday cuz of the Holiday. I know this disease is tough to deal with, but you will find, as I have, this group is the best group of people you could ever want to meet and you will find more information here than you ever could anywhere else from people who are actually going through it just like you. I have UIP which is the untreatable form of pulmonary fibrosis with not a good prognosis at all. My pulmo said it is the worst one of all the PFs, so lucky me, but I just deal one day at a time and always know whether you are having a great day or a horrible day, you can always come here and always be welcome!! CaroASTHMA 1976,OSTEOARTHRITIS 2002, COPD 02/06, IPF 08/07, UIP 01/08, RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 03/08Mississippi Hello,I am anticipating beginning Prednisone and Imuran next week following the pulmo appt. for the initial tx for PF. From what I understand this is the beginning tx with Prednisone at 40 mg. and Imuran at 150 mg. In the past I have taken Medrol Paks (Methylprednisolone ) on two ocassions however they are only 4 mg. tabs with the 1st day at 6 tabs, 2nd day at 5, etc. to day 6 at 1 tab. I have felt better around day 5 for about a week or so. Side affects have been cystic acne and anxiety. As Imuran is new to me and the Predisone dose is much higher than I have ever taken I would appreciate hearing from others if my understanding of the initial tx of PF is correct and how others have tolerated these drugs.Thank you all for your support. 53, CA .PF 06-08 No virus found in this incoming message.
