Guest guest
137 8 hours after you was high, my first question though is why you would not have ate any thing a snack or or had something to drink in 8 hours? You can't do that when you are taking meds. If you had ate then it would have been very high. Whole wheat bread is better for you then white but it is not always lower in carbs. I buy whole grain white because I do not like the whole wheat but a lot of the wheat bread has more carbs then the white. you need to get the whole wheat bread that says whole grain but then again sometimes it has more carbs. Anymore they do the diabetic diets by carbs instead of sugar. Some sugar-free items will have more carbs then those with it. Also most fat-free products has more carbs then the food with the fat. Portion control you need for sure. Do not skip meals when you are on the meds. Patty You are doing a lot better. Patty My Meter Is Here Hi All, My Prodigy Voice meter arrived on Friday and I opened it early this morning and was looking at the manual I got on the web and I was able to put the battiries in it and to set the date and time. But when it came to testing I waited until my brother got here and he did the first test on me. I was 137 and it was about 8 hours since I ate. My brother did not seem so encouraged as I was. But when my other two readings were 435 and 156 I thought I must be doing better. I must admit I cannot completely stop eating some of the things I enjoy but am having smaller portions. I was given a loaf of whole wheat bread and that is not too bad. But I stil have about a third of a loaf of regular white bread. I also got my talking scale and it said I weigh 159 pounds so I really need to get busy and get some discipline.

Guest guest
Some excellent advice from Patty. I'll reinforce that it is vital to read the nutritional data on any food you eat. When looking for high fiber foods, always look for the magic word or words, " whole grain. " Conversely, flour " or " refined, " or " enriched " are ingredients to avoid. A piece of whole grain bread with 23 grams of carbohydrate per serving (as well as a minimum of 3 grams of fiber per serving) is still better than white bread with the same carbohydrate count. Never get tricked by the name or brand of a product. A classic example is a bread that came out some years back called " 12 grain bread. " Turns out it has 1 or 2 grams of fiber per serving. The bread may in fact have a few ingredients that allowed it to be marketed as 12 grain, but it meant nothing nutritionally. Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. Guest guest
Now you're on your way! Get used to using the meter to see where your bg's are, and especially 2 hours after eating. I believe you're a type 2. The 2 hour after eating test will be your most important one since it will tell you if your meds are correct, and/or if you're eating properly. Guest guest
Hi , What time of day was it when you had not eaten for 8 hours? Something that is important is to eat at consistent times. It is just as important as taking your meds at about the same time of day every day. What had you eaten when your BG was 450? That is really high. But if you did not wash your hands before testing, you could have something on your fingers that gave you an inaccurate reading. Have you been able to get hold of your doc and an agency that can provide you with more strips? _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Lora Leggett Sent: Saturday, June 25, 2011 5:50 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: My Meter Is Here Hi All, My Prodigy Voice meter arrived on Friday and I opened it early this morning and was looking at the manual I got on the web and I was able to put the battiries in it and to set the date and time. Guest guest
Well, I went that long because I was dozing off for about an hour at a time when was not calling me to reposition his legs or something. So I had a hot dog on bread about 3 in the morning and my test was done at 12:30 PM. Guest guest
That was a lot of dozing. You can't do that now. I know you are whupped because of and I know how much you love him, but you might not be able to take care of him and have to have him put in a home. It doesn't sound as though he will have much time left but neither will you if you don't take care of yourself. Life is hard and sometimes it seems like there is no beaks. You are blind and I'm almost completely deaf. We adapt and go on .

Guest guest
Yes, I guess I am type 2.
