Guest guest
Is she overweight? What prompted the diabetes diagnosis? A high fasting bg perhaps? It's hard to say whether or not she will ultimately have problems. Why can some people eat a horrible diet, be skinny as a toothpick, have great blood work, and live until they're 90? Answers we just aren't privy to. Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. " [ 16:33] Why does it work this way? I got a sister in-law who was told she was a type 2 diabetic maybe 3 years ago. her Momma and sister are type 2 as well. now my sister in-law doesn't take any meds because the doctor says her A1C is under control and she is controlling it by diet and exercise. Well my sister in-law and I got the same saw bones, so she is probably being truthful or he would be on her like white on rice! the part of it that I don't understand is how can she eat like she has always ate, drink alcohol like she was still in high school, no more exercise then walking to and from her car and eating sugar any time she gets the desire to do so. how can she live like I can't any more and control her A1C? she said it is still around 6 and the doc is ok with this and still lets her slide on the meds. I try to tell her that sooner or later her life style will catch up with her and the diabetes will get worse. but she thinks I'm jealous because she can live the way she does and not take meds or have troubles with sugar out of control. Actually I am jealous and it isn't fair! her Momma is a type 2 and has been since she found out about 7 years back. my wife is also type 2 and her A1C is right below 7. I certainly don't desire for my sister in-law to get any worse then she is now, but at the same time I do wish she would take this disease more serious then so far she has. the complications it does cause seems to creep up real slow and very quiet. alcohol is full of sugar and I know that can't be good for a diabetic. she can drive unlike her sister who is my wife and is blind and can't drive. seems like would be so afraid of diabetes could take her driving away from her if she wasn't careful. what I need to know is how do you convince some one like my sister in-law that diabetes isn't to be played with and it is a killer even if right now she hasn't changed her life style at all and her numbers when she goes in to be checked it still showing her diet and no exercise is controlling it? It seems to me that is going to ignore her diabetes until her numbers start going higher and the doctor wants to start her on some pills. I would think it will even be harder at that time for to do right because of all this time of doing wrong. you would think with diabetes heavy in her family it would get her attention? what does it take to wake some folks up? do they actually have to loose a leg or have a heart attack like I did in order to pay more attention? will say she is border line diabetic and this is why her A1C has never really got out of control. some say there is no such thing as a border line diabetic and others say if you don't change the way you live, then you will become a type 2 and this is why they say border line. Well maybe there isn't anything I can really do any way. I sure do hate to see her get worse, but I know in time the diabetes will get her like it does the rest who continue to not make changes in there life style. It is really sad to sit back and watch some one you care about destroy them self by sticking there head in the sand and ignoring the truth. is a lot like the person who says if you don't admit a problem, then there can't be a problem. Well sorry for the ramble, but had to tell some one who I know does understand. I bet some of you even know some people just like my sister in-law ?
