Guest guest
Becky, I may come across as a diabetic Nazi at times, but I want to point something out to you concerning foods. If I read one of your recent replies correctly, you appear to be resigned to no longer eating good food now that you're a diabetic. To which I must reply, not so. That is, unless you've been eating nothing but donuts and candy and desserts and ice cream, and these are the foods you think you will no longer be able to eat. Again, not so. Will you be able to indulge in these foods, over eat until your stomach is ready to burst? No. But guess what? Your new life is going to be a better life, but you need to ease into it. As far as enjoying a donut or dessert, you will certainly be able to do that occasionally. But you will need to allow for it, and you have to always keep in mind that unhealthy foods are now the exception, and not the rule. At one time, the meal plans for a diabetic were called " diabetic meals, " or a " diabetic diet. " The truth is, diabetics these days simply eat according to healthy nutritional guidelines, based on age, activity level, and body weight. Healthy eating is in, if I needed to tell you that. So, as a diabetic, you are now in a very trendy group of people! We are the trend setters, and are not confined to merely eating food that is meant for diabetics. You'll want to begin incorporating hole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and moderate portion sizes into your new lifestyle. Again, this transition may not happen quickly. If you're accustomed to eating poorly, and you have been around the planet for any amount of time, it will be hard at times. But as many on this list will tell you, it is possible to make this transition. And, in the end, you will be healthier and live longer! Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. " [ 16:33] Re: Hi Becky > Hello, Becky, welcome to the club nobody wants to join. Welcome to > the diabetic list.
