I know what you mean about not seeing anyone bfip in VA. When I do it you

should see the

stares. I have been yelled at for doing it and get some nasty looks and under

the breath

comments but proudly nurse my dd(13mos) anywhere and everywhere she wants to.

Welcome to the list. What a great committment to nurse your adopted baby.

Have you started pumping already? When is your baby expected to arrive?

Will the baby be newborn or older? Do you have any nearby breastfeeding

friends that could loan you a baby to help establish supply? I am in

Northern California and can't seem to pump to save my own life. LOL I

would send you milk if I could. :( With your permission I can post on a

few other lists and see if I can help you find someone to donate milk to

you. Its great to have you here. Let me know if there is anything I can

help with.

intro

Hello! I am married, 31, live in Portland Oregone and am planning to try

to

breastfeed our expected baby who is coming to us via adoption. I've done a

lot

of reading and research and feel encouraged enough to at least try this for

the

baby coming into our lives.

I am here to connect with other breastfeeding moms (whether or not they are

nursing a bio baby or an adopted baby--nursing is nursing). I would love

to

meet other breastfeeding/planning to moms in Oregon or Washington. I am

also

looking for a few breastfeeding moms with extra milk who might be willing

to donate some of their extras to our adopted baby (preferably a mom who

already rents or has a pump). I've learned breast milk cn be frozen for a

year or so safely and shipped if done so properly. So if you are

interested or

know anyone who would be, either post to me or email me privately. I look

forward to learning and meeting you and thank you for sharing on the list!

nursing my 20 mo old little girl. I really admire what you're about to take

on. About 13 yrs ago my aunt successfully breastfed a little girl she

adopted! Take care and keep us posted! S.

Hi !

I think it is fantastic that you are going to bf your adopted baby!

Congrats on the decisison!

Yes! Nursing is nursing whether it be bio, adopted or wet nursing (I haven't

done that or heard of

it being done recently, but it can be done!).

I would love to, but I don't really eat the best foods in the world (although my

ds weighs over 20

pounds and is over 26 1/4 inches long and he just turned 5 months on the 30th).

I have lots in the

freezer and am currently expressing more than takes in while I'm at

work.

Thanks, Jeanne! I've been spending so much time in the car lately that

I'm hardly home long enough to make anything, hahaha. My younger son

injured a ligament in his knee playing soccer in October--bad

injury--and I have to drive him to the next city twice a week for a

knee therapy class. We live outside town as it is, but I don't usually

have to drive this much, and it's making me very tired. Tired = trying

to make myself not tired by eating. So that is a challenge!

I am very weary of the diet rollercoaster. I'm completely fed up with

the whole concept. I do have the IE book and need to find the time to

read it. I'm taking that knitting class and am finding that knitting

is a good thing to do when I'm feeling bingy but not hungry and need

something to do.

Sharon, I forgot to mention in my welcoming post that you

and I have such similar stories. I've been on the same merry-go-round

myself for many years. In 2008, I lost over 40 pounds and maintained

the loss for about a year. Like you with your hubby's bypass, my

self-discipline went out the window too the summer of 2009 due to some

personal issues I was experiencing at the time.

I've had enough too and have given up the fight with

myself, food and weight. Besides finding this support group,

reading the wonderful book "Intuitive Eating" by Tribole and

Elyse Resch has helped put me on a new road. I hope it will be as

helpful for you as well!

Best wishes,

Jeanne

Hi, ,

Big welcome to our group! I think you'll find lots of us have a story similar to yours. Just take it in baby steps. For me, taking very good care of myself is the best base for being successful in keeping to IE.

All best,

Laurie

Hi!

My name is and I just turned 46. I have always struggled with my weight which climbed steadily over the years. I had a couple of successful periods of weight loss but I had never lost over 20 pounds at a time. In 2001, with the fear of the gestational diabetes I had had when I was pregnant at age 31 "returning" as Type II diabetes I started a diet, calorie counting and keeping a food journal, then later weight watchers. At the time I weighed 226 and was a size 20/22. I started doing some sort of aerobic exercise daily and started losing. My calories were kept between 1200-1500. I lost 2 pounds a week in the beginning and a year and a half later had lost 96 pounds, down to 130. However, after obsessively keeping a food journal and exhausting myself with exercise I started to slowly gain back the weight. I was totally burned out and still am to a large extent! Two years ago I read Intuitive Eating and loved it! But I needed more support. I could bare ly find a blog about it anywhere nor could I find a yahoogroup or anything similar so IE slowly fell by the wayside. At the moment I am back to "dieting." I am back to journaling. I must be mindful. I have to keep a purpose in front of my face at all times to succeed. I have to read about any goal I am trying to accomplish whether it be simplifying my life or dieting. A journal helps me do that but the thought of doing this for the rest of my life makes me sick to my stomach. I just want to be "normal!"

At the moment I weigh 196. I have not been over 200 pounds in a while at least so yay something!:0 I was so excited, thrilled to find this group last night as I was searching for info on the Okinawan diet. I just want to eat healthy and be healthy. I do want to chunk the scale and the food journal eventually but I am not ready, yet.:( Bottom line: I need to read IE again!

Thank you so much for being here. I am very excited to have found the group. My mom was diagnosed with diabetes a few years back and has become a very successful intuitive eater. She has lost 60 plus pounds!

Welcome! I'm new too. I went the OA route, and lost 60 pounds, and I'm struggling with what to do with my focus at this point. The "eat whatever I want when ever I want it" is pretty seductive for me. I'm hoping to find some sanity it all of this.

Thanks again for sharing!
