Multiplying by 18 converts units of blood sugar from the mmol/L

(millimoles per litre) system which is used by most of the world to

mg/dl (milligrams per deciliter) which is used to measure blood sugar in

the United States.

Although they cover a similar range, the A1c number and the mmol/L

number are not the same. An A1c of 13% is not equal to an average blood

sugar of 13 mmol/L, which would be an average blood sugar of 234 mg/dl.

Instead, an A1c of 13% is equal to an average blood sugar of 18.1 mmol/L

or 326 mg/dl.

Nurse ,

Now, this makes no sense to me - but - multiplying by 18 gives you your

blood sugar reading for that particular time.

In order to convert the A1C you would need to use 20.5 as the multiplier or

divisor.

Why the numbers are different has never been answered but that is the way it

is. (large question mark?)

I don't know how accurate this is, but supposedly if you multiply 18 times

the number of your A1C, it gives you your average daily blood sugar.

Dave and Harry are probably more up as to the correctness of this than I am,

but it seems to work for me also.

he hasn't gave me any nitro. I will ask him about it though. why do you

multiply 13 by 18? I did and 234 sounds right. but how and why does this

work? I suppose 13 is my A1C, but what is the 18? I buy the dannon yogurt

and it only has 15 carbs. I keep it around and think I will start doing that

like you say. They told me the day of my stress test to skip my bp pill that

morning. why would they not have me take my blood pressure meds?

could it still hurt after 4 years?

I had my cabbage, open heart by-pass back in 2007 and then coded ten days

later. they probably broke some ribs jumping up and down on my chest, but 26

minutes later I rejoined the living. But this split on my chest has never

stopped hurting. I can press on it in certain places and it will hurt really

bad if I push to hard. I heard that when the weather is cold or wet that

this can make a place you had cut open on your body hurt. is this so? Will

the pain ever go away? I have wondered if I could have some kind of

authoridus in the place where they wired me back together. I told the heart

doc, but he just says after all my chest had to go through that month he

isn't surprised that it hurts and that is all he has ever said about it.

also have wondered if that spot where they wired me together, could it ever

get infected after all these years? I go for a chemical stress test next

week because I have been having some chest pain. but when they run the test

they run in the hospital nothing shows up that says there is a problem with

the heart.

Now my A1C was 13 about six weeks ago and the doc put me on time release

metforman, 1000 milligrams twice a day. Do you think this could be causing

the chest pain? I know it has been upsetting my stomach in a bad way for a

week now. I certainly hope the A1C will come down if I got to put up with

the sick feeling like I'm going to lose my cookies. then in the hospital

they put me on the purple pill because I told them it feels like there is a

knot in my throat all the time. they said that is a complaint of folks who

have reflux problems. Well this little pill is higher then a cat's back. I

only pay $42, but my insurance pays $170 each month. I bet it won't be long

when I will be in the doughnut hole as they call it. When that happens I

will have to make a choice to pay the difference or go back to the knot in

my throat feeling. the purple pill has helped that feeling go away though.

Well anyway was hoping some of you may have an answer for me. thanks for any

patricia, try to concentrate on the now. dont worry about yesterday or tomorrow.

it can get overwhelming. just think of the now, this is all we have. eat your

meal, be good, just the carbs for that meal then no food between meals. get

excercise of your choice but do something, remember think of the now only. this

will help you. after twenty one days you will do great. it takes twenty one days

to make a habit, smile. you will feel so much better as time goes on. but i

stress, keep in mind about the now. we are cheering for you. best, karen
