Guest guest
I sure appreciate that list. I do have a braille printer, and will print myself out a list, and hopefully I can get better control of my blood sugars. My blood sugar has been on a yoyo thing the last couple of weeks. UP and down, it is a mess right now. Arlene about counting carbs: Is there a list of food and their carb values on the internet that I can print out and use for a guide? Guest guest
Hi, everyone! Lots of good discussion going on! I'm away this week (11th through the 18th) and haven't been able to stay up with all the messages. Just one comment as I finish scanning the latest messages. And this is in response to Arlene's message, but also to others. I've stated previously, and someone even mentioned this recently, that the meter is the best thing in the world for any diabetic. Use it frequently, no matter what your doctor says. Get your doctor to prescribe 5, or 10 strips per day if that's what you need. My daily prescription is 10, and even though my supplier requires a log as proof that I indeed use this many strips, that's not a problem (well, it's a little bit of a problem since I can't presently print out the log, but that discussion for another day). Anyway, check your bg frequently when you're trying to establish a base line. There is simply no other way to determine what foods do what to you. You are you, and no one else. If you have pancakes for breakfast, and check your bg 2 ours later and see that the bg is in an acceptable range ((this may need to be determined), then you know you can tolerate pancakes. Use the chart to get an idea, but you need to check your bg 2 hours after eating to see what's gong on. There is simply no other way. I will also suggest that you check before you eat. You need to know where you're starting from, especially if a t1 insulin dependent diabetic. Hope this helps! Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
