Guest guest
Maintenance dose on Day 3. Those who have seen benefits from High Dose Vitamin A can you tell me how you switched to the maintenance dose? In other words, did you give the high dose (4,00,000 I.U.) for 2 days and start the maintenance dose from the third day (10,000-25,000 I.U.) itself? Or, after the 2 days of high dose, did you slowly reduce and reach the lower maintenance dose in about a week or so i.e. gradually went from the high dose to the maintenance dose rather than switching right away on the third day? -- Toni------Mind like a steel trap...Rusty and illegal in 37 states. Guest guest
My DAN mentioned repeating the high vit a protocol once a month. We also had ONE " bite " looking thing. I did see a little bit of a rash (just one spot) with DS, which looked like a mosquito bite. I was wondering whether there is any way to force the rash out of him. Once he had a rash with OLE and we did see gains after that. So I really want him to break out in a rash. > > > > > > > Those who have seen benefits from High Dose Vitamin A can you tell me how > > you switched to the maintenance dose? Guest guest
It really got me worried. Since November my son has been getting 7500 IU of Vitamin A daily. So it's been 3 months since he has been getting this much. He gets 2500 IU from CLO and 5000 IU from his Multi (ASD Vitamin and mineral powder). So he is getting 150% of recommended daily value. Also, we are planning on starting RX anti-virals. Should I reduce his vitamin A intake and hold on starting RX antivirals? Thank you, Dovile Those who have seen benefits from High Dose Vitamin A can you tell me how you switched to the maintenance dose? Guest guest
I forgot, we see the same DAN. And this is the prime example of how different kids need different things but I would also say that if you feel you need an explanation of why every 3 months and why for 4 days, you should ask her. She'll explain it and you can decide if you like her explanation or not. She won't be pissed if you decide to do it for 2 days instead of 4 or anything else. She has her opinion and it may be a very solid opinion - I don't know. We've never really discussed it that much. I honestly don't know enough about it to guess that it's right or wrong or somewhere in the middle. I only know what the protocol is in it's original form and what constitutes toxicity. Doctors prescribe it outside of what I know and I'm sure there are mom's on here that have way more information on it than I do. I only know the basics of it. The great thing about her is that she will discuss and offer her opinions and listen to yours. She may not agree but she'll listen and as long as she feels it isn't dangerous or risking her medical license, she'll work with you to do things that are more comfortable for you. Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~~@Gryffins_Tail~ For us she recommended doing 4 days of high dose Vitamin A and repeat it every 3 months. Right now we will not be doing it, but it is something to consider for the future. Guest guest
Very good point to remember.http://cerhr.niehs.nih.gov/common/vitaminA.html Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~~@Gryffins_Tail~ Please remember t hat vitamin A derived from BETA CAROTENE is NOT fat soluble and will not contribute toward vitamin A toxicity. The Retinol and the Palmitate forms are the ones to be concerned about. Many times, the multivitamin has a good percentage of the vitamin A listed on the label as being from Beta Carotene.Make sure you do the math, and don’t worry if it’s from beta carotene. Guest guest
I just looked it up. Vitamin A in his multi is as Vitamin A Palmitate (5000 IU). He used to take a multi from Kirkman that had Vitamin A as 20% beta Carotene. I was thinking of changing his current multi (too expensive for us), so I guess it's time to start looking around. Guest guest
You know, I think that's really the hardest part about seeing a DAN - learning what the *right* questions are. There's never a wrong or dumb question but there are questions that actually need to be more specific to get to an answer that is significant. But I guess that's true for anything, not just DAN. Cheryl ~http://www.gryffins-tail.blogspot.com~~@Gryffins_Tail~ I haven't done a lot of research on high Vitamin A protocol, but I think she chose 4 days because I mentioned to her that my son is a very sensitive guy and she said "let's do 4 instead of 2". Not sure why it is 3 months, but I will definitely ask her. I think I am still learning how to ask the right questions. Thanks for all the great tips. Dovile Those who have seen benefits from High Dose Vitamin A can you tell me how you switched to the maintenance dose?
