Guest guest
It matters to me because I'm diabetic and I can't just eat what I want when it comes to carbs. I'm carefully adding them in small amounts to see waht I can tolerate without making my blood sugar go up. It's a whole different ball game ! Just thought I'd ask since I don't have any on hand. Ginny Question Can someone tell me if tomato or vegetable juice has any carbs in it ? Thanks, Ginny Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. Guest guest
Ginny, If you enter everything into Fitday.com, it tracks your carbs for you. ann < > It matters to me because I'm diabetic and I can't just eat what I want when it comes to carbs. Guest guest
I track it in my Blood sugar book that I keep and show the Dr at my appts. since I have to do it there for her it would add a step to have to do it in another place too. Are there other advantages for using Fitday.com ? I'm not familiar with it. Guest guest
Ginny.. There is a host of advantages in using a program like fitday.. I would get the registered version of it though since it has more functions.. I monitor myself from time to time to make sure I am getting enough vitamins etc.. meeting my daily food requirements and maintaining the proper balance in my food intake.. There are other programs similar to fitday.. that are also very good.. To access fitday online.. go to http://www.fitday.com Welcome to the group... --- Ginny wrote: > I track it in my Blood sugar book that I keep and > show the Dr at my appts. since I have to do it > there for her it would add a step to have to do it > in another place too. Guest guest
Hi Ginny... Do you have to count your good healthy carbs like fresh veggies etc? Just curious here --- Ginny wrote: > BlankIt matters to me because I'm diabetic and I > can't just eat what I want when it comes to carbs. > I'm carefully adding them in small amounts to see > waht I can tolerate without making my blood sugar go > up. Guest guest
---All veggies have carbs in them. Approx 5 gms of carb for each 1 cup of raw veggie and 1/2 cup cooked. Juice is no exception, it even has more! One cup of Cambell's tomato juice has 10 gms of carb and 2 gms of fiber for 8 net or allowed grams per cup. Guest guest
Ginny, It automatically adds everything up--fiber, carbs, protein, calories, etc. That way, you don't have to count. If you plan ahead, you can enter your day's meals into Fitday in the morning to see where your figures are and if you need to adjust. How many carbs does your doctor say to have in a day when you have diabetes? ann > I track it in my Blood sugar book that I keep and show the Dr at my appts. since I have to do it there for her it would add a step to have to do it in another place too. Guest guest
I have the same issue. I do drink diet, caffeine free coke but I am convinced that even that is additive and increases the sweet cravings and my desire to munch. I have often kicked the habit only to go back to it.. It really helps with any indigestion and I seem to crave the carbonation more than anything. I have tried other like seltzer water, etc. but they just don't seem to hit the spot. I also have to be very careful because when I do drink the soda I don't drink as much water and can end up with bladder problems or just feeling dehydrated. I read that soda/caffeine dehydrates too. Right now I am back drinking the darn stuff and my body tells me it is not good for me. I have stopped for a very long time and then one drink and I'm back. Sandy One of my main " enemies " is soda. I don't know what it is but I can stop drinking it for a little while, then I am right back where I started. Has anyone successfully kicked the habit and if so, how? The good news is, I AM getting more water in along with the soda so I guess that's something to be thankful for. Celeste " A sound Soul dwells within a sound Mind and a sound Body. Guest guest
I've heard to avoid acid erosion to tooth enamel, drink out of a straw.. Some how that doesn't sound too appealing with soda? I am also an avid diet soda drinker although I've tried to quit multiple times with limited success... mostly due to the negative effect the acid has on my tooth enamel And I notice that if I'm drinking soda, I drink it more slowly than water so I seem to get less liquid overall (which is why I'm trying to add more water in general). But if you are worried about the caffeine being dehydrating, as long as you are a regular caffeinated beverage drinker, you don't need to worry (and I used to really worry about this). Recent research has shown that as long as you aren't drinking more than your normal amounts of caffeinated beverages, they do not have a diuretic effect (your body adjusts to the caffeine). I.e. if you drink a big cup of coffee every morning, then your morning coffee is hydrating (if you never drink coffee and then have a big cup, it is less hydrating). If anyone has successfully kicked the soda habit- I'd love to know how you did it! Cheers ~

I have tried other like seltzer water, etc. but they just don't seem to hit the spot. Some of the carbonated waters are just clear soda. So you reall arent making a change with those. Like you, I love bubbles but feel less well with less water so I made the choice to save soda for when I'm out (fountain soda rates better to me anyway.) at home I drink unsweetened sparking water or seltzer which took some getting used to but now I like it. (I was having health issues so I had to figure something out. ) However, if I need more zip I add a splash of fruit juice or a squeeze of lime juice. Lower sodium, less acid, fewer chemicals, BUT equal enjoyment to soda for me . And I don't have the dehydration or bladder issues. It's a win for me. If you don't like it it won't work for you. We all have to do what feels right to us and not like punishment. I also prefer the price of seltzer. ;)Patti

Guest guest
Sandy, it seems like it's a battle for a lot of us.I was doing good for a couple of days. But yesterday, I got right back into it with a 32 oz Mt. Dew and a grape Crush. Sighs. It's a horrible beast. I KNOW it's not good for me.I have been finding alternates like really cold water, adding the sugar free flavoring to water, tea helps a lot too....but I end up right back with the soda.Frustrating!Celeste One of my main "enemies" is soda. Guest guest
What if you commit to being FULLY present when you have that soda? Giving yourself full permission to drink it, but promising yourself that you will stop everything and focus COMPLETELY on that soda while you drink it? That way, either you drink it and really have a wonderful experience, OR you discover that you don't like it as much as you thought you did, that it's a coping mechanism for dealing with something else. Either way, it would be a win, it seems to me.But I think making it forbidden is only going to make it more alluring.HTH,Abby Sandy, it seems like it's a battle for a lot of us.I was doing good for a couple of days.
