Guest guest
Mali-Time. I think (hope that's the answer.) I've been working on IE since April and I find I still do that often. I look at it this way. At least now, I'm consciously aware of what I'm doing, and even that is a huge step in the right direction. Plus, I find that even if I must finish something, often times it's still less than what it used to be because I am putting less on my plate, so I'm counting that as progress too.DawnTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Sat, October 16, 2010 8:36:04 PMSubject: Calling former "clean your plate" cub members Hi all, Its me again I'm having another issue that I'm struggling with... I now finally have a good sense of when I'm full and when I'm satisfied. I feel so much more in tune with my body and its great to know that I finally "get it"! The problem I have is that even when I recognize that I'm full or satisfied, I continue to eat sometimes... correction, most of the time. I don't know why I can't get myself to stop, even when I know that I can have more later if I want to. I don't think its emotional either. Perhaps its because I've been part of the "clean your plate" club for so long, having grown up in a war and being told constantly not to "waste" food. I've reread the chapters related to this, but still, I just can't help the feeling to want to "finish" and clean my plate. I tried pouring less in my plate, but its other things too: like feeling like I have to finish the sandwich or burrito or the slice of pizza or the ice cream cone, etc... even when I'm fully aware that I'm satisfied and full half-way (or even less than that sometimes). Anyone experience something similar? Any tips on how to overcome this? Thanks so much! Mali
Guest guest
Mali,I agree that time can be hugely helpful. Just being conscious of this is a huge step! A couple of other suggestions... try leaving food on your plate every single time you eat, no matter what. even if it's a single bite of rice. if you really want every bite on your plate, get seconds... enough to leave a little on your plate. if this is too hard, try removing a little bit of your food from your plate BEFORE you start eating. some of this, i think, is just learning to make a new habit. leaving food when you are used to cleaning the plate is a hugely different habit!best, abby Mali-Time. Guest guest
I took it slow and worked on one meal at a time and made myself more present and paid more attention to when/what I'm eating. I'm doing well with every meal and snack except dinner. I'm currently working on dinner as I don't understand why I still overeat at dinner and sometimes in the evening I go to the cupboard and nibble even though I know I'm no longer hungry. Sometimes it's the taste, sometimes it's because I've paid for this meal at a restaurant and I don't want to waste it as it won't taste the same as leftovers. I'm trying to eat away from the TV as that helps. Jo. > > Hi all, > Its me again > I'm having another issue that I'm struggling with...
