Are you in the states Sandy? Are you on Medicare? Do you have a Medicare

supplement if you are on Medicare? I'll wait for your answers before offering

any suggestions.

Introduction and a Question

Hi,

My name is Sandy. I was born blind, and I have been a type II diabetic for

about 7 years. I have been using Novolin insulin pens, but as I am sure many of

you know, they are not being made anymore. I had quite a stock pile of them. I

am finally running out, and I must now learn to use the count-a-dose. I have

only read the description and instructions. I am getting a lesson and to

actually see it on Thursday. It sounds complicated. Is anyone using it? Does

anyone have advice or opinions? The brand name pens just are so expensive. Any

thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you. I'm apprehensive about making this

change.

Hi Sandy, my name is Arlene. Welcome to the list. I have used the

count-a-dose in the past. I much prefer the pens. I had some trouble drawing

the insulin from the vial when I got close to the bottom of the insulin in

it. That is why I like the pens better. I know they are expensive, but they

are worth it.

Welcome sandy. I used a count a dose for years before getting my insulin

pump. As long as you have the BD brand 50 unit syringes, it is not

difficult to use. I have never used a pen as they came out after I received

the pump. My count a dose is still here somewhere-in case the pump does not

work!
