Guest guest
, Found his blood sugar to be " very low? " And they're giving him insulin, when he is not eating? Yu must have meant found his bg high, but if he's not eating, I'm not sure. Insulin should be given based on his blood sugars, and I would think, if they were significantly high. What are they looking like? Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. " [ 16:33] Update On 's And My Medical Situation Hello All, I am sorry I have not been around much lately. The friend who usually keeps everyone updated is not in here but those of you guys who do hear from her when I am not around the computer are free to share her updates in here about me and . We took back to the hospital by ambulance on July 20 and he is in his third room. He is severely malnourished because he was refusing to eat at home. They also found his blood sugar to be very low and have been giving him several units of insulin a day. He is having problems with pancreatitis and they had to take him to Ford Hospital in Detroit for an endoscopic ultrasound. Ever since then his lungs have been sounding awful and they are now giving him breathing treatments again. They were going to put a feeding tube in him today but have postponed it because of his lungs. Meanwhile, I have an infection in my heel and cellulitis and I am on antibiotics, pills for pain and inflamation, and one glyburide per day. I did get my test strips and lancets taken care of finally and it went through CCS Medical. I am still having problems getting enough of a blood sample on the strip. At the hospital I have been letting others do my testing with my meter and they can always get it with one poke, so I am still not sure what I am doing wrong. I sometimes take two or three pokes. I mostly am hanging around 180 to 209 or so testing two hours after a meal or just before it is time to take the medicine. It is kind of ironic that I have been dreading insulin and now they are giving it to . I really hope they do not have to put him on a ventilator again. Of course he would not be able to communicate with me at all if they did that. The good thing is that when I had that Dopler done they found no blood clots. The leg and heel really hurt and it is impossible to stay completely off of it with him in the hospital. They did say that if I would have gotten admitted they probably could have put us in the same room. So I stay some nights in a chair or a little bit on the other bed if there is no room mate. It is a little harder to control my diet when on the run so much. But I am trying. Lora Leggett
Guest guest
, It appears I too have some cellulitis on my left foot/lower leg. I've been trying to take care of it using a steroid based cream, but it's pretty stubborn. I have an anti-biotic to take, but have been trying to not take it because I've had bad reactions to anti-biotics in the past. But this one is supposed to be okay. It's abbreviated name is doxy. Guest guest
I went to my doctor (the practice), however, I could only get an appointment with a PA. He said to use the cream, although he didn't think it was cellulitis. This was a couple weeks ago. Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. Guest guest
OK, I did not mean to send that yet because I was still writing but our cat jumped up onto our bed and startled me. My wireless keyboard fell to the floor and I was saying a couple of choice words to and the message sent. As I was starting to say, they are feeding what is called TPN (Total Parental Nutrition) through the IV and it is going into his veins and bypassing his digestive system. These feedings are custom made each day based on a lab analysis of his blood. So they make up this concoction and put whatever he is deficient on such as potasium or magnesium or whatever. Thursday or Friday he will have a feeding tube installed and that will go to the digestive process and you use a commercially prepared solution to feed him. Shortly after they nake sure he is OK with that then he will be released from the hospital and come home. His sugars are looking like anywhere from 130 to 160 and then they give him 2 or 4 units of insulin and he is always being fed the TPN. They say it can make him go a little high. They do not seem overly concerned and probably plan to stop when the TPN stops. He is also retaining a lot of fluid. They also seem to think this will also stop when the TPN stops. ---- Original Message ----- To: <blind-diabetics > Sent: Monday, August 01, 2011 10:54 AM Subject: Re: Update On 's And My Medical Situation > , > > Found his blood sugar to be " very low? Guest guest
I finally finished the first course of antibiotics and am starting the other ones now. I think these are called something like Kestrol. I will get the correct spelling from someone later and send it. They are smaller pills and are 4 times a day instead of two like most I have had and the ones for twice a day are those big horse pills. My foot is not feeling much better and I am getting very scared. There is a bulging spot inside my right ankle besides the bottom of my right heel is where the infection was. The swelling on the tops of my feet has gone down quite a bit. I just wear my soft slippers to the hospital because I know shoes would hurt me. Guest guest
Bg readings of between 130 and 160 for someone in 's condition are fine. I'm a little surprised they're keeping him that low actually. It sounds to me like they're acquainted with treating diabetics. Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! Guest guest
Hi , Just before they gave the nutritional feeding in the PIC line and they tested it and it was 48. He has always tended to be on the low side. But when they started that Total Parental Nutrition it has been showing up as around 150 or 160 and they have also been giving a couple units of insulin after they test. Guest guest
Yes, that stuff is high in calories. But that is what he needs now to build him up. When he goes on the other liquid, it still might be high depending on what the liquid will be I'm sure they will monitor that closely also. But those blood sugars are not bad considering what he is going through.. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Lora Leggett Sent: Tuesday, August 02, 2011 8:00 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: Update On 's And My Medical Situation Hi , Just before they gave the nutritional feeding in the PIC line and they tested it and it was 48.
