Guest guest
My kids take zinc monomethionine. I found it acts the quickest. My son wouldn't eat but 5 things for the first 6-7 months on gf/cf -- and my DAN suggested that. Within 3 weeks he was eating veggies, and hasn't stopped, he will eat anything you put in front of him. (which is great) I stopped supplementing, and signs started to show that he was deficient again, so I started supplementing, and wha la, he's eating all the veggies again. He also takes calcium and magnesium (separately - Calcium all day when he needs it, and mag in morning only) and I have found that if I miss any one of them, he tends to wet the bed. When I get all of them, he doesn't. (I have a chart, and it's consistent) I give calcium citrate, and magnesium in the form of " Naturally Calm " --these three have been WONDERFUL for our family. (We are also Feingold and Low Oxalate, gf/cf (some corn, some soy, but only organic and extremely limited). I hope this helps! We use this brand - and I just ordered more! http://www.energeticnutrition.com/vitalzym/zinc.html laura > > One of my son's current sups is zinc citrate. We initially started giving him zinc because he was mouthing/chewing everything. Well, he still does it. I'm wondering if I should try zinc picolinate, instead. I looked up the difference between the two, and apparently the picolinate form is absorbed across the intestine better. It was also suggested that both copper and magnesium should be taken if zinc is taken, because it can deplete both of them. My son currently takes neither of those. > > Anyone have thoughts on this? Is picolinate better? Should my son be taking copper and mag? Also, what dosage? Right now he's taking 30 mg/day of zinc citrate. Guest guest
You need to have your sons mineral levels checked before supplementing. Yes, zinc does chelate copper but many of our kids are high copper/low zinc kids. High copper is bad so you do not want to add more unless it's low and needed. Liquid minerals are absorbed easier than powder form. We like Angtrom super strength liquid minerals which have no taste. Have yo looked into the biofilm protocol by Dr Usman. The viruses, bacteria, metals and yeast are bound together and proteted by a biofilm which is made of calcium, magnesium and iron. It's just something to look into so you can figure out what to do. If you're using valtrex to get at the viruses you may be blocking the valtrex getting to the virus. Guest guest
- Thanks so much for your reply. You have been so very helpful to us in the last month! I don't know if you remember, but you told me that the problems I had described my son was having sounded like he was reacting to phenols. Boy, were you right! We immediately cut out the phenols, and he was a completely different kid! We've tried to introduce a few back (apple juice, banana smoothie, carrot cake) on separate occasions, and the red cheeks and ears, and the behaviors all immediately came back. We've tweaked his diet a bit, and things are MUCH better. Thank-you for that. :-)I will look into zinc monomethionine right now. I hadn't seen it mentioned when I was looking at different zincs. My son definitely needs to expand his menu - maybe this can help. Thanks so much! My kids take zinc monomethionine. I found it acts the quickest. Guest guest
Hi! Thanks so much for responding!I don't think I'm too interested in supplementing copper, anyway. I don't think it's necessary. I will ask my son's DAN at our next appt to check his mineral levels, anyway - it's good advice. :-)I have not looked into the biofilm protocol, but I'm definitely interested. I'll go look it up today - thanks so much for the explanation! You need to have your sons mineral levels checked before supplementing. Guest guest
- that's wonderful news!! Now if I can only figure out how to introduce those foods back in without a reaction (like, what am I missing!! gah!) -- THEN we can do a super huge party dance! I am working on it...when I come up with a strategy, I will post it. However, that being said, I did introduce golden delicious (only - and peeled) apples back into his diet. With good results. They are low in phenols and salicyates. Also, if you are a 'juicer' (lol) -- it helps to add foods you want him to 'try' thru juicing, and then put it on his plate (cooked normally). I think the body recognizes the smell...something to consider... I'm excited for you... yeah!! laura > > > > > > One of my son's current sups is zinc citrate. Guest guest
The Houston No Fenol enzymes really helped fenol issues. A little pricey (to me) but lasts almost 2 months. Or 3 if less is needed. The zinc is good too since it's usually needed. Cheryl > > - > Thanks so much for your reply. You have been so very helpful to us in the last month! Guest guest
I have my kiddo on Trienza right now, which has No Fenol in it. It's interesting... he had previously been on Zyme Prime and AFP Peptizide. In the fall I decided to try Trienza, in order to add the No Fenol. AFTER switching to Trienza, he started reacting to phenols!. I can't figure this one out... The Houston No Fenol enzymes really helped fenol issues. A little pricey (to me) but lasts almost 2 months. Guest guest
So it would be, Houston we have a problem ! I had to say it. I havent used Trienza. If the reactions happened after you stopped Trienza i could think the sudden abundance of the enzyme might cause the body to think it didnt need to make it anymore since it was being supplemented (this happens with thyroid hormones, i dont know if it happens with digestive enzymes, not sure, but now really curious). If occured while supplementing then just have no clue. I would ask the people at Houston. And tell us if you find out! Cheryl > > I have my kiddo on Trienza right now, which has No Fenol in it. Guest guest
We use this: http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/ViewProductDetails@Product_ID@315@Product_Group_ID@1.\ aspx No chewing in about 3 days (1 teaspoon/day). Other forms of zinc did not work. > > One of my son's current sups is zinc citrate. We initially started giving him zinc because he was mouthing/chewing everything. Well, he still does it. Guest guest
BTW, we also use this: http://kirkmanlabs.com/ViewProductDetails@Product_ID@118@Product_Group_ID@1.aspx But, my son was in the 97th percentile for copper, so we use a couple of things to reduce that. > > One of my son's current sups is zinc citrate. Guest guest
Funny - we used digestive enzymes, but not ones specifically for phenols -- and we have this issue as well. I wondered that myself.. laura > > > > I have my kiddo on Trienza right now, which has No Fenol in it. It's interesting... he had previously been on Zyme Prime and AFP Peptizide.
