Guest guest
Congratulations to both of you, Sugar and , for doing so well with your kidneys. One thing I have never gotten an answer to no matter who I asked and this goes back to 1978 when and I drove a patient to dialysis three times a week back then. What symptoms tell you something is wrong with your kidney or kidneys? You are going along living your life and what happens to alert you that something is not right? Guest guest
It is routine for diabetics, most certainly long time diabetics, to have blood work performed probably 2 or 3 times a year that will check kidney function. Other than back pain as someone suggested, which I can only imagine is possible, you probably wouldn't know you had kidney dysfunction until you were suddenly quite ill. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you. I went to my family doctor and he drew blood and told me that my kidney function wasn't quite normal. I had swelling in my ankles, but didn't really feel bad until my number hit 10.0 and the kidney specialist announced it was time to start dialysis. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Lora Leggett Sent: Friday, December 09, 2011 6:23 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: congratulations on your transplants Re: Sherbet ice cream Congratulations to both of you, Sugar and , for doing so well with your kidneys. Guest guest
oh yeh I can relate, but not sure why I didn't feel that any different, I mean, sugars were pretty much in control under 180's all the time, but due to the wrong insulin thing when I was younger, that took on more than I expected, and well, after I hit 7. something I was constantly told " dialysis " and still I knew something was out there(God had something for me) anyways, I kept hanging in there, working, going to school, and at last once I hit 16 something, my time was very limited, and we began talking transplants. sugar " And the angel said unto them, " Fear not! Guest guest
You should get the standard diabetic regime of blood work. Any competent doctor knows what this is. And it will certainly include a creatine clearance, which is the kidney function. Well, perhaps if you are young and newly diagnosed, they may not check the kidney function. It can take quite a long time for kidney disease to develop. But if you are not young, I would think they will check. Just be sure to request it. It is certainly covered under insurance since kidney disease is a known diabetic complication. Dave " ...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. Guest guest
Actually, hemodialysis is usually done in a clinic 3 days a week. Some people can be trained to do it at home, but you really have to be sighted or have someone sighted around in case of an emergency. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) can be done at home on a basis of doing it 3 or more times a day. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sugar Sent: Monday, December 12, 2011 9:35 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: congratulations on your transplants Re: Sherbet ice cream Hi If I am not mistaken Hemo means Dialysis at home, and the other is where you go to a clinic or cetner to have it done. the one at home you do once a day and the other you usually got up to 3 times a week sugar " Bless us Lord, this Christmas, with quietness of mind; Teach us to be patient and always to be kind. Guest guest
There is a higher incidence of infection for in-home dialysis. When I was first looking at PD, they said the guide dog or any other animals we had could not go into the room where I would be doing the dialysis and I would have to daily dust with damp cloths and do the floor daily also. _____ From: blind-diabetics [mailto:blind-diabetics ] On Behalf Of Sugar Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2011 4:25 PM To: blind-diabetics Subject: Re: congratulations on your transplants Re: Sherbet ice cream thank you for the clarification I was told it was much safer to go to a clinic for the hemo one, but again, everyone is different thanks again sugar " And the angel said unto them, " Fear not!
