MB, Yes, I did tell Eddie last night. Toodles! Jane

>> Jane,> For sure don't tell Eddie! I'm impressed girl, on one liter I would have been sitting in the middle of the floor, my sats in the basement, coughing my head off! So happy you managed to get away with it!> > Beth > Age 48 Fibrotic NSIP 06/06> > Change everything. Love and Forgive > > > > > > Oxygen> > > Hi to All!> & I went to Kroger's tonight for some groceries. I drove my car and had my Helios Marathon. I set it to continuous instead of demand. I pushed the buggy. The store is huge. We went all over the store and got what we needed, stopped and spoke to one friend, went to the checkout. pushed the groceries to the car I got in and looked at the Helios. I had set it on 1 (ONE) liter. I went through all of Kroger and had no idea I was on One Continuous Liter of O2. And I didn't pass out or anything. My oxygen driver told me that the legislation has been passed already in Washington regarding Medicare will no longer cover our tanks, etc., and that I am now responsible for the upkeep and repairs on all my tanks? I have 8 100lb. tanks in my home! I guess I own all these tanks and tops now seeing I've had most of them for five years now. The rental has far exceeded the purchase price many times over I am sure!I had read last week, I think, that they weren't even going to finalize this piece of craziness until January 09...am I behind the times?!! Mayleen, When you are eligible for

Medicare A, You are eligible for  B which is taken out of SS check

Then you need a supplemental policy that is privately handled.  There

are also Medicare Advantage plans

AARP and many other insurance companies handle it..There are many

different plans.

You will alos need at that time to pick a coverage for prescriptions

too!!

It's very confusing..it took us weeks to figure out which plans would

be best for us.

Z., Thank you so much for that information. Do you think maybe you can show me some sites or something so I can look at it? I had heard a lot of turmoil having to do with the changes when they happened, however it did not apply then, although I felt very bad for all those who were going threw such confusion. Does AARP have a limit on age groups, (not to miss taken as offensive), I am 48 in 2 months. Thank you for being helpful .

Mayleen,  Medicare  for me kicked in 2

years after   my SSDI claim was accepted December.2005.

If you have SSDI you are eliglble for Medicare A and B.  A does not

cost extra but  B does

and so do any supplemental insurances and presciption coverage.

Go to WWW.medicare.gov  all

the info is there.

If you are not on SSDI...you might be eligible...call your local SS

office.

AARP is for 50 and over. There are many other insurance companies.

As you can see on my signature, I'm 64 so age was not an issue.

As you can see on my signature, I'm 64 so age was not an issue.

you think maybe you can show me some sites or something so I can look

at it? I had heard a lot of turmoil having to do with the changes when

they happened, however it did not apply then, although I felt very bad

for all those who were going threw such confusion. Does AARP have a

limit on age groups, (not to miss taken as offensive), I am 48 in 2

months. Thank you for being helpful .

Good Morning ette,

Hope everything is well with you. Thank you for always including us

in your mailings; I'm hoping to be able to attend a meeting soon.

I read Rich's dialogue and he is in one of the current competitive

bidding areas. Our service area has not yet been chosen for CMS

competitive bidding. We probably will be in the next batch of MSA's

(metropolitan statistical areas) to compete for the right to service

our customers for bottom dollar. We are gearing up for that event;

however we have not implemented as drastic the measures as indicated

below. We are not sure what we will have to do when the time comes;

but presently we are trying to become more efficient in our

operations. We have not limited the portability of our customers.

What we are currently trying to figure out is how we can service

those patients whose oxygen systems will transfer ownership to them

in January '09. These are Medicare patients who have had oxygen since

January '06 and before. I do see out of pocket expenses for the

beneficiary because there is a lot of " service " that was part of the

monthly payment for the equipment; such as routine and preventative

maintenance, disposable supplies and refills.

We try always to keep the patient's needs in mind when making

business decisions, but sometimes our hands are tied by all the

rules, regulations, and continued reimbursement cuts. We pray prior

to each meeting for direction and guidance in making business

decisions that will allow us to service our patients in the best way

possible.

It's always nice to hear from you and God Bless You!

Hi All,

A few months back, Lincare had provided an in-service re: home fill

systems and travelling with oxygen. We had all heard whisperings of

the Medicare oxygen shakeup and wanted to understand the

implications. At that point, American Home pt had adopted a policy of

8 portable tanks per month (coincidentally, the same number of tanks

projected in the Medicare policy), Linacre had home fills available

but would not be limiting portables and Apria would continue to

service our pts as usual (meaning portables prn, liquid, conservers

etc.). I certainly understand the frustration that generated the

letter below and noted that the gentleman writer was from Texas. I

spoke with Dave, the branch manager of our local Apria, to clarify

things. The following items were covered:

1) Apria pts will continue to be serviced, for now, as they always

have been.

2) Home fills will be available along with liquid systems and

concy/etank combos

3) He has promised that if and when a change is necessary, due to

reimbursements, the info will be provided to pts. This will not be

handled by the drivers.

4) High Flow pts will continue to be a challenge.

5) Right now, it looks like there may be a difference in regional

services or state-by-state reimbursement.

Finally, Dave has offered to speak with us directly about any other

questions we may have and assured me that our rep, Colleen, will keep

us up to date on developments.

Please listen to any pt concerns/questions and then direct them to

their provider! Pt's should be given the info directly from their

supplier since it looks like each company will be handling the

guidelines differently. However well meaning, I wouldn't want any of

us in the position of giving pt's information or guidance that may

ultimately result in out of pocket expenses to them.

Let me know if you have questions,

Thanks,

ette, I just spoke with Apria regarding this issue and per

Colleen she is looking into the concerns right now and will email me

later today. The one thing she told me is that Apria in Delaware

Newark to be specific offers individuals liquid O2 on a case by case

basis which is the way they have always done this and per her

knowledge there is nothing in the new Medicare guidelines mentioning

doing away with E tanks. Colleen did mention that each Apria company

across the US has different guidelines for liquid O2 and it may be

that one particular area may have a high usage of the liquid and

Apria there is trying to get a handle on the number and reevaluate

which patients require this form of O2. If you co uld please pass

this information along we want everyone to remain healthy and use the

O2 they require and try not to stress over a possible deadline that

has not been formally set in place. If you or anyone in the support

group has any questions regarding this matter please feel free to

call or email me at anytime I have no problem calling each of these

companies to ensure that they are keeping the patients aware.

Thanks greatly. I think it shows that no one completely knows how it

will all work but the hope is for minimal problems. Now, some policies

have already been in place. For instance, completely unrelated to this,

some Apria offices are refusing to provide liquid. The reason is simple.

Right now they get paid the same regardless of what they provide.

Therefore, they prefer concentrators and compressed canisters because

there is a lower initial cost and less weekly cost to them.

I am in one of the first seven bid areas. In DFW 35 suppliers have been

granted contracts. Lincare has stated to me that they do not intend any

changes in services. Now, will that change? I have no idea. However, my

greatest fear was only one provider for the area or maybe two or three.

With 35 providers you still have choices so they will have to provide

something to keep customers. Its at least not as bad as Cigna and their

exclusive contracts with Apria.

As we actually pioneer the way as guinea pigs for this change, I will

certainly post any changes I see.
