Guest guest
Mayleen There are two major issues when looking at these plans when eligible for medicare based on disability. First, the insurers do not have to offer the same plans for disabled as they do for over 65. Each state determines which supplements they have to offer. In most states they have to offer at least Plan A. In Texas there is only one, for instance, that offers Plan F. This is where searching by state and searching for one that covers under 65 is necessary. Second, there are multiple ways of pricing. AARP on their supplements uses Community Pricing so age is not a factor. Most use age as a factor and it may be your current age or the one when you were first eligible. This is used by many to discourage those of us disabled. For instance you will find plans where the rates for those under 65 are double or more those for over 65. As to AARP which you asked about, on their supplement they use community pricing and offer generally the least their state allows for those under 65. That means in Texas they only offer plan A. As to their Advantage Plan, the real issue becomes who will accept it. For instance, Sher has a BCBS Advantage Plan and loves it. In my area the doctors and hospitals for the most part will not accept any Advantage Plan. One Plan I looked at had one hospital in the entire Dallas Fort Worth area and it wasn't a good one. Anyone potentially eligible for medicare needs to start researching very early and review the excellent medicare.gov site well. They need to check with their providers and check with insurers. Many senior centers or services do offer counselors to help with medicare and very knowledgeable in the subject. > Jan, I found this site, you have to select the state you are in for coverage.. Florida seems to cover oxygen theraphy at 80%, patient pays 20% ope. > > http://www.medicare .gov/Coverage/ Home.asp > > God Bless !! > dragonflymcs > Mayleen 02/07 ILD / MCS/ Fibro/ RADS/ TMJD/ IRD +14 > < Click on me !! > > > > Oxygen Rules & Regs > > > My oxygen driver told me that the legislation has been passed already > in Washington regarding Medicare will no longer cover our tanks, etc., > and that I am now responsible for the upkeep and repairs on all my > tanks?
