Hi Cy,

My brother, Dan, just had to go for a biopsy on his gums Saturday. He found

out he is a diabetic in July of 2009. I am not sure what they will find but

it was weird you mentioned it when he just had that procedure on Saturday.

My gums and teeth have always been awful so I can only imagine what is down

the road for me.

I will update our situation in another note but will have to write quickly

because we are getting ready to go back to the hospital.

I'd like to know the answer to this question also. My dentist has told me that

my gums are pulling away from my teeth or something similar to that. I'm having

one problem right now with a particular spot on my gums so would like any info

someone has.

Hi All,

We have a friend who is Diabetic and she is experiencing some rather severe

gum disease.

She is fairly clueless about what foods she can eat and has fallen victim to

the advice offered by those who are also clueless concerning Diabetes.

Now, in the back of my poor, tired brain I think I recall something about

Diabetes and problems with one's gums.

Any comments?

Thanks for the help.

cy, i do remember that you should make sure you change your tooth brush or you

can keep giving yourself the gum disease. if you have an electric brush change

the head on it every two to three months. karen

you will likely be wise to go to a specialist and perhaps they will scale your

gums. if you don't take care of this you could end up loosing teeth. a

specialist can help you and tell him you are diabetic.

It is not uncommon for a diabetic to have gum disease, which can get severe

enough to make one lose all their teeth. This especially true if the person

does not take care of their diabetes. High blood sugars promote gum

infection and infecting causes the diabetes to go more and more out of

control. Also, as you age, your gums tend to withdraw from your teeth-hence

the statement " getting long in the tooth " .

when i to twice a year I take 4 penicillian pills, before to prevent infection,

both for my transplants and sugar, but this something you will have to talk with

your doctor.

I do this for extra pracaution.

changing tooth brush every 3 months, flossing like no other, very carefully, and

of course like said, very watchful of sugar levles

hugs

Hi Vicki, sorry for the goof ups, LOL

I think I was thinking faster than I could type, LOLOL

I meant to say(just to make it clear)

I visit my dentist twice a year, and an hour before my visit I take 4 penecillan

so this can prevent any kind of infection, and always make sure that dentist has

gloves, clean tools, etc...

my mother always says one ounce of prevention can save me a life time of

suffering...

that is true

that adage is still true. Ihad a dentist once with no gloves. I didn't

stay with him long because he was, well, mean and stuff. I found out

later that his room was disgusting, all kinds of things all over the

floor. Mine now you can tell is very clean, gloves, very clean rooms.

He has a sunny disposition and Iwill never go to any other.

Hugs.
