Guest guest
Welcome, lilygirl! If you look on half.com, there are used copies of the book Intuitive Eating for 75 cents plus shipping, so about $4. That's affordable!!! It's a great book so far and I'm enjoying learning about myself and my eating style. Hunger cues? I'm still learning about those. Good luck! Guest guest
I'm kind of having a similar problem as I find that I'm getting better at feeling when I'm hungry, but I'm never sure if I'm hungry " enough " to eat. But I also know that when I wait too long, I'm so ravenous it's hard to stop. Sometimes I try to record what I think my hunger feels like when I think it's time to eat. I'm hoping that if I do that from time to time I'll start to be able to distinguish between the various levels of hunger so that I can figure out what signals my body is sending when it's the best time to eat. Josie > > Hello, this is my first time posting here. I only just joined the other day. I left another fitness forum due to snarky comments, etc. I have struggled and struggled with my weight and body. I am about 5'8 " and weigh 165 at my last weighing. I have pretty much been around 164-165 for several months now, which makes me happy as I have lost weight from about 180-178 lbs several months ago, and that took quite some time to happen. I will not lie though, my ultimate goal is to lose more bodyfat and yes, see the number on the scale go down some more. I am trying to get ready to train for running a half-marathon and being lighter would help some. And also, I quite frankly want to look like I workout as much as I do with weights and the running. I can't " diet " right now, meaning restrict what I am eating in any way. I have just reached this point where if I try to do that, I binge. I hate the binging feeling and I hate constantly thinking about food. I have not read any books on intuitive eating as I have spent soo much money the past couple years on diets and such that I don't want to keep spending money, as I don't have that kind of money (I am a teacher and single, so don't have a lot of money). I have started listing to the Inside Out Weight Loss podcasts and enjoy them so far, but have a lot of trouble figuring out hunger signals. I have been waiting til my stomach starts growling, but find myself cutting back on water as I'm afraid that will " hide " the hunger signals and I can't keep that up. > > So basically what I am asking is for help figuring out what is an appropriate time to eat. I find that if I turn off all distractions and eat slow, I can figure out when to stop eating. It's just finding the right times to eat. Thanks for any help. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for your input! I think I'm definitely going to get that book that was recommended. That's a really good price! I would love to be able to figure out the feeling I have right before my stomach starts growling, as if I go too long, I do the ravenous stuff your face thing. Then I either regret it after or figure well, I just blew it, so might as well keep going, and I eat some more! Ridiculous. But I have been overeating for several years, so I guess I'll just have to be patient. I loved a comment (excerpt from a book, actually) in an earlier hunger post. It talked about different kinds of hunger and labeled one of them taste hunger. That made me feel soooo much better, really. Sometimes, yes, I do eat from boredom or for other emotions, but a lot of times I really think I just eat because I love the way food, especially sweets and other junk food, tastes and I want that experience. Hopefully between the book and this group, I will be on my way soon! Thanks a million!! > >>>So basically what I am asking is for help figuring out what is an appropriate time to eat. Guest guest
Good to know! That's one of my biggest worries, I guess, is that I'll never get past the constant cravings for the " bad " stuff, such as refined sugars, etc. I went on vacation this past week to the beach, which meant eating out every night. That's my BIGGEST pit fall. I tend to not only order food that is not in anyway good for you, but I also tend to big time overeat. I wasn't able to post anything, but read comments that people posted after my comments. I was surprised to find that when I really stopped and thought about it, I was perfectly fine with a couple small pieces of fudge. And this was AFTER my family bought $30 worth of multiple kinds of fudge! So I think I'm going to try to incorporate a couple pieces of Hershey's chocolate nuggets after dinner and see how that works for my chocolate cravings! Thanks for the positive news! > > > >>>So basically what I am asking is for help figuring out what is an appropriate time to eat.
