Guest guest
So, this might be a situation where you just have to keep practicing, whether you believe it or not (i.e., fake it until you make it) and hopefully, your brain catches up. For example, as I've posted before, I still have my doubts about IE, but I just decided that doubts or not, I'm going to do it for a year and see what happens. I find that's really helpful because I am very analytical and too much in my head. I'm *very* prone to overthinking things. This way, I don't have to debate it; I just do it. And I'm hoping that a year from now, it's going to be worth it. And if it's not, so what? It's a year. Nothing all that bad can happen in a year. Maybe you can start, though, with baby steps. There are plenty of treats that are healthier for you. Whatever the " bad " treat of your choice is, you could go to a local health food store or search for recipes online to make a healthier version (but not *too* healthy, as that would defeat the purpose). Then allow yourself to have one treat per day or per week, if you prefer, and see what happens. Realistically, nothing bad will happen from this, but over time you'll be giving yourself proof of that and maybe it will ease your mind. Josie New posts up @ www.artofintuitiveliving.blogspot.com > > This is so difficult for me as well. I want desperately to believe that all food is good food- no food is bad and they are all equal. And yet the bad food/good food mantra is SO ingrained in my mind that I can't seem to genuinely believe that. I often do what feels like lying to myself and saying that all foods are equal etc, but deep down I don't truly believe that and I have no idea HOW to change that deep seated belief. Is it even possible??? > > Thank you all, > Jen
Guest guest
Thank you so much Laurie!! That was so very helpful. You are right on the spot..... I know that food x will not make me fat based on factual information, but my ED uses this as an excuse for me to overeat. I then focus on the particular food and miss out on the reason/feeling that I truly want to overeat. I will keep this in mind and try and push through the first barrier, which is always making something about food..... Have a great day and thank you for taking the time to respond. > >>> Hi everyone! I just had a couple thoughts and needed some reinforcement. I am very clear that a calorie is a calorie, but during stressful times, or when I am feeling out of control, my eating disorder, strongly disagrees with this fact. I struggle with believing that all calories are equal, even though I now the facts. I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts, or if they had struggled with this. I still have the distorted thoughts and beliefs that if I eat certain food, they will make me gain weight, or the all or nothing thinking like I've blown my day if I eat something that is not " healthy " so to speak. Thanks!<<< >
